  1. My audition of the RS-1 was too short to make any comments....wouldnt be accurate...

However, i can compare it with the 325i which i just bought..

But from the 5 mins i had i can say that the RS-1s are very transparent and warm sounding.

haha, was the rs1 still as i left it - on the cdp? innocent.gif

  2. wil: how do the RS1 detail level compare  to ER4S??

not as good as the er4 certainly. imo nothing full-sized out there i've come across (save maybe the staxes) can touch the er4 on detail. but then again, i dont need such a level of detail in my main phones!

  3. and fwiw, i do not believe that the alessandros > grados. imo both house sounds have their individual merits.

Care to elaoborate on what are the individual merits? The majority on Head-fi seems to prefer the Alessandro's except probably in the comparison between the RS-1's and MS-Pro's.

    nonsense! tongue.gif

the majority of head-fi probably leans towards the ms2 instead of the 325 simply because the ms2 is less piercing and cheaper, but then again you must take into account the horde of 225 owners! and the ms1 certainly has few fans when compared to the sr80!

add that to the fact that very few people in head-fi own the mspro when compared to the rs1.. and those that have have moved back to the rs1 (bhd812, goredwings19 comes to mind).. you get the idea. alessandro owners are still a distinct minority. cool.gif

anyway, to rehash a stereotype, i think there is some truth when it is said that the grado line has a more lively and musical sound when compared to the alessandros. grado: more bold, more upfront, more musical, more harsh, more mid bass. alessandro: more laid back, drier sounding, more recessed highs.

  4. the other guy? he dismissed my ms-2 as 'oem'!!  hammer.gif

Lol obviously he's not a cans guy. Alessandro's are widely acknowledged to be better than their Grado counterparts! Anyway are the RS-1's still $1200 according to the price thread? That's extravagant!

yep, still 1200. i've been doing some searching around and i dont think that there's way to get a rs-1 first hand on the cheap. sigh.

and fwiw, i do not believe that the alessabdros > grados. imo both house sounds have their individual merits.

  5. brought along my ms-2s and flat pads for a direct head-to-head session at MBD...

in my eyes - it's official now. the rs-1 beats the ms-2 without breaking a sweat.

here are some of my quick impressions.

NOTE: all impressions with flats. happy.gif

Do note also that i'm not exactly a neutrality fan wrt to grado headphones - these are rock headphones... and i just wanna rock. party.gif

rs-1 has a lot more bass

rs-1 is definitely far more musical sounding - the ms-2 sounds a tad cold in comparison

rs-1 has far more micro-detail and seperation, but are NOT fatiguing

while having far more bass slam. imo the rs-1 has a slight wooliness in the bass. not enough to bother me, but enough such that it becomes noticeable.

also, i noticed a very slight hollow tint to the sound once or twice during music with female vocals. strange. perhaps caused by resonance in the mahogany cups?

  6. sr325. this is the classic version, not the thicker 'i' version. fwiw though - many head-fi members maintain that both the ms-2 classic and ms-2i have no sonic differences.

and well, it's an INTEREST CHECK. i'm not obliged to sell, but those who are interested can contact me so that IF i sell, they have priority.. happy.gif

FWIW, i'll 90% likely be selling these within the next 2 months.

  7. hey all, i'm still around. anyone missed me? happy.gif

anyway.. anyone know whether there is a singaporean brick and mortar retailer for stax earspeakers?

i'm curious about the signature mkII system and am looking for someplace to audition it.

    anyone?

ps: the link in the pricelist sticky doesnt work anymore! blink.gif

  8. the mx5021 is not bad. i own then. then again i have DIY'ed 14guage twisted pair speaker cables for them so ymmv. they sounded terrible out of the box but after leaving them to burn in for 24 hours with the radio on, i came back and gave them a second listen and they sound great! quite natural sounding for the price. i did not listen to them in the meantime so i know it was not a case of my ears 'getting used' to them.

my only complaint is that the bass is a little boomy, but for $200.. tongue.gif

the promedia 2.1 can be auditioned at the apple store near the escalator on the 6th floor. to my ears there is something unnaturally 'hard' about the treble, but the bass.. the bass! blink.gif
