    High Society

I was at Raffles city That CD Shop and went to check out this series. Using their nakamichi changer which clipped badly on the akg 141 headphones when i tried to turn up the vol. i am a little short of hearing, cant really hear anything execept the noise coming out the BMB boom boxes. i was listening to the Shanghai Jazz cd. High Society label is exclusive to That CD Shop produced by EMI. I dun hear anything extradordinary good about the production. To me its just a fancy re packaging of music into genres which EMI/That think will appeal to a less mainstream customers, targeting the yuppie or more matured listeners. Together with the killer ah lian marketing, this will help bring in the sales. Dun mind me, i m just not really turned on by ah lians. Edit: I came across the original Shanghai Jazz 1 and 2 CDs. They are released in 2004 by EMI Hong Kong produced by John Huei. From this I suspect the High Society label is simply repackaging existing EMI CDs. I gonna go try to find the Hong Kong original or China PI at Visma when I have the time. Its a joy to go digging for CDs in a messy shop Edit2: High Society are HDCD editions of existing EMI CDs.
  3. I assume u want them heavier to reduce resonances. For speakers usually ppl use kiln fired sand (to make sure its very dry) or very small steel bearings (very expensive) or similar hifi product. To prevent a mess if u want to reverse the mod, use a liner like a thick plastic sheet. For amplifiers i suggest using blutack on the inside of the casing so it resonate so much. Just dun block any vents. Another useful mod is tar sheets, http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/dampere.html One more to add, for the cd players just use the old yellow pages or for a more elegant solution try this http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/press_e.html
  4. I m using a white JVC Marshmallow (with kramer mod) for my 3G iPod (with rockbox firmware) The JVC Marshmallow can be bought from Popular bookshop at $31.90, will not burn a big hole in pocket. For instructions on the kramer mod refer to this head-fi forum post but one word of caution, try not to get poisoned by reading other topics.

  9. not sure if u got the space, but a t-amp is pretty small and u can pair them with efficient bookshelf speakers. even student budget bookshelf speakers sound better than most of the multimedia offerings out there. if u r patient, can scout around for a good 2nd deal. ppl upgrade their hifi very often.
  10. Hi ppl, recently i purchased the UD-10 but i didnt get the battery pack at that time. now i m considering getting an external psu. is it advisable to use a power supply unit instead of battery pack? battery pack gives best performance but i thot its a hassle. any1 can enlightened me on linear vs switching psu? ie regarding the noise level? im looking for a relatively "clean" 5v 1000-2000ma psu with 5.5mm plug. any recommendation? if any1 does diy can try this for their DAC or T-Amp projects. I m no DIYer so I m looking for a ready to plug solution (if any) http://www.bliss.com.sg/products/proddispl...p?prod=SNP-8080 another solution? portable handphone charger http://www.eastgear.com/shop/product_info....products_id=934
