  2. gotta be a lot easier compared to these buggers made by cardas. theres hardly any space to work with, if you make a slight mistake, the area around the pins gets melted by the soldering iron.
  3. yes, i know that. i've built 7 senn cables using the cardas' senn connectors. but thank you for your help. i was just asking because the OP didnt show the third party connectors on his 'preparation' picture. those connectors look a lot better than the cardas senn connectors. the cardas connectors are bi*ch to solder. where can i find those connectors? does neo chen sell those connectors? how can i get in touch with him(or it if it's a company)? thanks for your help.
  4. i tried the flats on my ms2. the sound became kinda muddy, and more importantly it didnt improve the comfort level. got a pair of senn hd414 pads yesterday. theyre extremely comfortable compared to the stock pads and flats. but they do sound kinda muddy and veiled, so i am thinking about cutting out a hole in the middle. but not too big so the good comfor level stays.
  5. that is some great diy job! how did you solder the connectors? did you salvage the connectors and solder the wires directly to the pins? i am asking because some people just solder the new wires onto the stock cable right below the connectors, not getting the best result of recabling.
  6. from my own experience, i recommend headamp gilmore lite. its bass is not thumping huge like tube amps but it does give very lean quality bass. it worked so nicely with hd650, ms2, sr325i, dt990. you can order a new one from headamp but the waiting time is months. fortunately, this item comes up quite often in the for-sale section on head-fi.
  7. my suggestion would be headphones: beyer dt990 250ohm (2005 model) dac/amp: diyeden svdac04 i find my dt990 to be excellent for several kinds of rock and pop. it's an extremely fun pair of headphones! after trying Grado SR325i, Sennheiser HD580, 1980 Beyerdynamic DT880, SR80 Re-Cabled(Canare), HD650, i decided to stick with dt990 and alessandro ms2. honestly, ms2 is better for rock but it is $300 and you said you didnt like grado's small soundstage. dt990 is super comfy(you'd know if you put on your friend's dt880), and has good soundstage. for dac/amp, i think you'll like diyeden svdac04(http://www.pacificvalve.us/DIYEDENSV04.html). emu0404 is another choice (the most popular usb dac/amp combo in its price range) but its built-in amp sucks big time. and its ugly. svdac04 is easy to use, its usb dac works nicely, and its built-in amp is very decent. it had no problem driving my hd650 and dt990. it also has an optical-in. its under $200 including shipping.
  8. well, that doesnt give him the excuses for ignoring the customers' emails. lots of people on head-fi complain about headamp's communication issues but it seems like justin does not care much, and people simply give up on it. during the 3+ months of waiting time, i sent several emails/messages to justin but none were answered. the only email i've ever received from him was when he was requesting the payment. my pico had a slight problem (battery being loose and moving around inside. the unit was functioning fine tho). i posted it on head-fi forums, justin saw it, told me to send it back to him. he received it on monday, and i sent him 2 messages asking how soon i could expect the repair/return. no responses as of yet. it's thursday afternoon right now. =( i am getting quite worried. 3 months of waiting time was quite enough. now i dont even know how soon my pico will be repaired and come back to me. pico is an extraordinary product. however, if you prefer a great communication and short waiting period (or none at all), try the predator. a lot of people actually prefer predator over pico when it comes to the sound quality. or meier audio's corda 2move is a similar product for a lot less money. or go-vibe petetie usb for even less money. just my 2.1 cents.
  9. my source was computer(winamp + asio) -> keces da-151 -(via diy rca to mini cable)> pico/iqube -> hd650, ms2, dt990 250ohm, altec im716, mylarone x3. i guess i shouldnt have said iqube was not close to pico/predator. it was the opposite of my idea of choosing pico and predator a preference. i worded it wrong since i preferred the sound of pico over i-qube's. but the i only played with the i-qube for only 2 days. maybe i shouldve given it more chance. anyway, the waiting time for pico sucks big time. i ordered mine in february and received it in late may. =( if youre gonna order one, keep that in mind. happy listening!
  10. i-qube does not come close to pico or predator in sound quality. comparing pico vs predator, it's just a matter of preference. both are extremely similar products. pico has high-end wolfson dac in it, and a lot of people use pico as usb dac + preamp to feed home amps. predator's sound is actually loved more by many users in head-fi. it supposedly had deeper bass and smoother sound ovreall. however, the sq difference between pico and predator are supposed to be very very subtle. i cannot give my own comparison b/c i only have a pico. its an amazing product, and it's so freaking tiny! after seeing so many pictures online, i knew it was tiny. but when i finally had it in my hands, all i could say was OMFG. =)
