  1. I'm getting very fond of the E17. I use it a lot now when a computer isn't handy, with the iphone and L3 LOD cable, which gives really great sound and lots of volume. It sounds so detailed on 320k CBR MP3's I ripped from some "K2HD" Japanese CD's - I keep checking to see if I'm still running the E17. I've used it about 4 hours today at loud volume and the battery indicates about 1/4 used and 3/4 available. It probably won't last 16 hours, but it might get close to that.
  2. You really should take them off before the sweat builds up too much and use a cloth to absorb the sweat inside the earcups, so it doesn't get into the drivers. BTW, look up the DT-48E review at the B&H photo/audio website - the review by 'Audiophath'.
  3. The original oval pads are efficient just like the round pads.
  4. I know the drivers are the same, I just need thinner earpads - the old earpads. You can test it yourself by observing the huge drop in efficiency by switching from round to oval earpads.
  5. For me, getting closer requires getting closer to the driver, not further away. I meant getting closer to the original sound.
  6. I'm still convinced that the DT48 has the best driver in the business. All I need is to get Beyer to make a new earpad.
  7. Here's the FiiO E17 video review: http://youtu.be/wW-W2vDN03Y
  8. My detailed review of the E17 and a comparison to the Audioengine D1. http://www.stereophile.com/content/fiio-e1...amp-review-dale
  9. I added a text to the Bose OE2i review at Stereophile to compare the OE2i to the B&W P3, since they are very similar in most ways. http://www.stereophile.com/content/bose-oe...one-review-dale
  10. And here's the video: http://youtu.be/wiVq2lW7-Es
  11. It's true the amp helps a lot, but even the best amp will not bring the treble up - only EQ does that.
  12. I did set up the desktop computer with the Headstreamer DAC, and Foobar2000. Then I used the same EQ curve on Foobar, and the treble was pretty good, and the mids and bass got even better. So this P3 is one headphone that is much better with a good amp.
  13. Here's my detailed view of the new B&W P3. I like it. Comfort is good, style is great, portability is awesome, and sound can be fixed somewhat. http://www.stereophile.com/content/bw-p3-s...one-review-dale
  14. I have a K701 and a ATH AD700 in the closet that someone traded to me. They both need earpads but otherwise they look as good as new. I hope in the next month or two I can get around to reviewing them. I just got the B&W P3, and I love it. It looks good and sounds good.
  15. Come to think of it, I used to get that underwater sound with a very old ripper and 128k MP3's. Makes me wonder.
  16. I read the 3 pages at HWZ - it looks to me like some of them didn't get the synergy right with their amps. Impressions that differ a little on the bass and treble make sense, but some of those experiences don't match up with the known 550 issues.
  17. What the foams do is reduce just the most irritating of the highs but leave the rest of the highs intact as well as the rest of the sound. Changing distance will have an effect on everything - not good unless that's your intent.
  18. That sounds near perfect. I wish I could get a bunch of those Shure foams without the earpads so anytime I get a bright one I can try the foam mod on it.
  19. Did I say 80c? Whoa, I would be dead at 80c. More like 32c. They would be OK in sg.
  20. Uh-oh those were highly rated. Did you check them for sibilants?
  21. Very true. It would be nice in a way if manufacturers could get together with customers and work toward some kind of standard of measurement that gets close to that "neutral" or "flat" thing. But on the other hand, it might not be a good idea. Sometimes competition is better than manufacturers working together.
  22. I took a walk yesterday in hot weather (80c) and high humidity and they did not seem to get unusually warm. But they do feel warm sometimes - the same effect as most headphones that have this kind of earpad.
  23. And here is the video review with more details. http://youtu.be/aU13xqPbpEs
