fishball79 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2003 Interestingly, the few cult status DACs i read about uses previously commonly found DACs. TDA1541 and PCM63K are such examples. Perhaps unearthing an old cdp with such a dac chip and rebuilding its dac portion or using it with a newer hopefully better transport would gain good results on the cheap... Rameish 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2003 He means these DAC chips can be found on some not so old players which are rather cheap today. Like the Rotel RCD-971 which uses PMC 63 (standard grade not k grade). So you could, I suppose, reuse the chips in a seperate DAC. While even older CDPs (which tend to have better transports - like my Rotel RCD-855 which uses the swing arm CDM 4-19 glass laser mech). Hence you might be able to have a better CD transport from the early 1990s and combine it with more modern chips from the late 1990s.
