Blues 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2003 note I said clip-on. So far the best clip on has got to be the ksc-35(subjectively speaking anyway!). It's hard to come up with a good clip on, or maybe they just don't want, knowing that the market for clip-on is limited to teenagers(budget who want good sound) and not so much for audiophile. So all in all, I don't think they will price it very high because those teenagers would rather buy stylish and cheaper headphones than this baby ! But if it's cheaper.. then it's a different story. Etys are marketed towards professional audiophiles for monitoring or sort. They are for different markets altogether and etymotics are confident about their pricing because they're targetting audiophile class who don't mind spending a fortune. But this one? more like for normal consumer/teenagers/ who don't particularly care about the sound, if you ask me.
tropicalrips 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2003 (edited) i see Audio Technica has put "sovereign" on this as well, could mean they plan to market it as high-end portable headphones?? also as woodies, they make good candidates for future "limited edition" cans Edited October 29, 2003 by tropicalrips
N@Z 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2003 I agree about the etys but I see it differently for these particular clip-ons because of the use of wood & the terminology (sovereign) used. It appears that AT is trying to market them toward the luxury sector. Quite possible that they are targeting users of the 'Wood' series for portable/outdoors use. Wood is not exactly marketed towards teenagers, in general at least, when you consider the average teenager would gawk at the price of a pair of clip-ons costing over $100. Blues 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2003 AT are the best when it comes to limited edition I don't know how many 'limited edition' they've churned out.. I think almost every year they do ! Let's see.. start from W11JPN , W11R(?), A100ti, W2002, L3000 ..and somemore older limited ed models
tropicalrips 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2003 anyone notice the other non-wood cans in the same series? EM9D & EM9R EM9d EM9r i suspect the 9d may be an open headphone while the 9r is closed
Blues 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2003 N@z: yeah I agree that this is perhaps not really targeted towards the normal mass market due to the wood and sovereign, which directly associates it with the high-end audiophile W1000. Let's see if it can live up to the expectation! Perhaps next year I shall give this a try
