Demagnetizing Disc

Recommended Posts

i'm just wondering how the demagnetizing track sounds like?

can someone describe it to me?? hehe

also, does "demagnetizing" the equipment improve the sound? or rather does it affect the overall sound of your system?

it sounds like a an oscillating sine wave sweep.

what will that do to the headphone & amp? unsure.gif

Too lazy to type out a summation so I scanned it directly off my Sheffield Labs CD.

A small bit about demagnetizing was also discussed in the thread on "Burning-in".

ok i get the idea that after demagnetising, the sound will improve.

i made this cd that sounds similar to those demagnetising tracks.

it has:

20 30-sec one tone tracks at various frequencies. eg, 20Hz, 30Hz, 40Hz, ......., 1000Hz, .........., 18 000Hz, 19 000Hz, 20 000Hz

1 20-200Hz sweep tone

1 5-min 20-20,000Hz sweep tone.

After playing the cd 2 times in my system, i notice some improvements.

And my question to Mackie, if i'm not wrong, i remember that u did play the demagnetising tracks on my system once when i visit your place the other time. but i didnt notice any improvements back then.. why is it that i was able to hear some improvements this time round?

A week late in replying but I was away, Sipher.

U've subjected me to a question which only you yourself knows the answer. Maybe it's your mood, the environment or your increased discerning skills that have resulted in a positive ID of the pre and post demagnetised system.

hmm.. that's what i thought too...

anyway, the sweep tone that i created is abit different from the one found in the XLO cd.

but i think that wont matter much tongue.gif

I demagnetize my systems every one month or so if constantly used. Take note not to push the volume too high as the high freqs can cause voice coils to burn out albeit they might not sound loud to U.
