Plainview alternatives

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I know this question might have been asked to death here, but are there any local (i.e. available in sg) batteries that provide the same (or almost the same) type of voltage and steep voltage drop off as the Plainviews?

Getting plainviews from the States and importing them into Singapore is very expensive, so I am looking if there are any local variants that provide the same functionality.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, there is none as far as I know. However there is one that comes closer than normal 8.4V rechargables.

This one doesnt really output so much voltage like plainviews but should be able to be still around 9V when dying out.

I have previously checked with w3cube and they said they will bring in sometime in March.

However I have not checked again, perhaps you might want to ask w3cube through email if they have really brought in such a battery.

By the way, the plainviews can be had from www.headsave.com

Edit: IIRC, the plainviews are 9.6V nominal whereas the maha is 9.6V peak. Do correct me if I'm wrong...

At 10usd a piece before shipping(which is quite affordable if you get a larger quantity of plainviews and spread out the shipping), they really are not much more expensive than the GPs you buy locally or other brands. There is a big difference performance-wise(measure them with a multimeter periodically and compare them to GPS, its a very obvious difference). The plainviews are also significantly heavier than GPs and Energizers etc because there are more cells packed inside, hence the higher voltage. If you want true 9 volts+ power from your rechargables, you'll have to cough up the extra $ (the GPs and Energizers give about 8 volts, my plainviews measure above 9 volts right up to the moment before they go flat).

See this earlier thread for some info:

Varta (of Germany) makes a 9 volt that's quite good. You can pick up some at S$13.50 each at the battery shop in the basement of Sim Lim Tower. It's not a nominal 8.4 volt like the GP or the 7.2 volt nominal Eveready.
