Mucking around inside my NAD 541i

Recommended Posts

3 different opamps were compared over the last 3 weeks, the stock opa2604s, opa2227ps, and finally opa2134s(incidently NAD uses the 2134 in their later model 542). The opa2227ps came out on top, by a significant margin, and they'll be staying out in the player until my opa627s arrive for the final showdown.

replacement caps, opamp sockets and iec mod were all done by Mr Firefox.

The idea was just to dampen the transport by filling up the "waffle" pattern on the transport with bluetak in order to (maybe) reduce vibration, I had spare bluetak lying around. tongue.gif The screws on top of the transport were also tightened.

The 2 mods that made the biggest difference were:

1. opamp change to opa2227p (really transformed the sound of the cdp, female vocals sound better than ever before, better decay and string instruments shine when using this opamp.) Give this opamp a try if you're trying to get a warmer more tube-like kinda sound.

2. increasing capacitance of the 2 power caps from 2x puny 1000uf 35v to

2 x 10000uf 56v tongue.gif (improved bass and weight in the sound) 10000uf caps are really way overkill though. It was my idea, I wanted 2 BIG caps. lol.gif

However, YMMV.
