bpribadi 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2004 Please share how it sounds Is the kit availabe for ordering ?
huangyong 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2004 bpribadi, I do not know how it sounds, you have to ask digi01 to write a review then. There's a good news to those who are "going tube", DIY tube amp is no longer difficult, costly and messy. Since the thread of this group buy is about SMD-DIP socket, I will open a new thread for group buy for MJ. FYI: digi01 arranges a set of kit which will benefit all of us, in term of price and difficulty level. Some of the parts are cheaper in China while tubes and transformer is cheaper (shipping of heavy tranny is $$$$) locally. So, he will only supply the neccesary parts and we can buy the tubes and tranformer in Singapore.
bpribadi 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2004 Good idea huangyong! I'm not really tube fan, because of that, I would like to hear 'experienced' headphone listener to give some comment of how it sounds, probably compare to something else like PIMETA, PPA, or others, before I decide to try it Anyway it is good to see how many of us interested with tube amp, by starting another group buy for the MJ tube Cheers! huangyong 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2004 SHOW time.... Now talk bout the amp first. The Mini Tube Amp is based on Morgan Jones design and modified by digi01. The amp can function as a dedicated pre-amp and headphone-amp. The PSU uses tube rectifier. That's all i know Now, the kit.... The kit will include 2 PCB (Amp + PSU), Capacitors, Resistors, Diodes, tube sockets, 2 ALPS potentiometer (not ALPS BLUE), 4 RCA jacks, headphone jack, screws, casing and etc. Tubes and transformers are OUT!!!! The amp needs 3 e88cc or 6922 or equivalent and 1 6N4 rectifier tube or equivalent. We can get the 2 needed transformers from farnell. 1.Part no. 149990 30VA 2x18V (S$43.10 each) or use 30VA 2x9V 2.Part no. 159414 12VA 2x12V (S$12.00 each) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The amp. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The PSU. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The 2 ALPS potentiometer ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

mukegile 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2004 (edited) HuangYong...are u sure thats the right P/S diagram ? I dont see any logic to get 0-18V to get unto input of the second trannies (if u really wire it up correctly...on the second trannies...It will requires 24 V there) Actually what we can do is to get a trannies that have multiples secondary.... ( i can get it custom wind locally....) by the way.....it's abit weird to get the filament wire up in series... (i dun get it) Edited August 19, 2004 by mukegile
