Low power op-amps

Recommended Posts

Hi all the DIY gurus,

I would like to know which opamp has the most optimal audio quality/power consumption ratio in your opinion. I am building a battery powered 3-channel CMOY, ie 2 opamps, for a friend and want to know which opamp will sound good and use the battery longest.

Thanks.

BTW - seems this site was down today? Am I right?

If you can design the circuit to accomodate the opamp, the LM6171/ 6172 sounds very good while having fairly low quiesent current. Unfortunately, you may need to up the voltage to get decent voltage swing at high volumes for high-impedance headphones (250ohms up).

can look at some of the Maxim op-amps, i hav used MAX4167 before, rated 2.5 to 6v, good for single 9v amps.

they hav a few op-amps that are design for portable players that can drive headphones but not possible for DIY work sleep.gif

direct headphone driver

Thanks all, I was hoping for some personal experiences. Have read the page in Tangent many times. But thanks anyway.
