wil 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2005 Hi all, Dont know much about tube biasing so im posting this ( posted on the loft but want more opinions...) 1) How would i know if a certain amp needs to be biased? 2) Must it be done straight out of the box? 3) If so, it is possible to get a technician to do it for me; no? and where can it be done? 4) I understand different amps have different voltages that the tubes have to be biased at, is this correct? 5) Matching tubes, will getting matching tubes solve the need for biasing altogether? 6) Biasing is not a one-off affair is it? Lastly, where can i get my amp biased? Thank u for your time!
Rameish 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2005 Wil, First off you have to find out if the amp is a manual bias type. If so there will be bias points on the amp itself some amps are biased in miliamps while others are biased in milivolts You may also have an amp that is called "auto bias" - this is more correctly known as cathode bias as the bias is set at the factory and can be changed but requires techincal expertise and changing of a few resistors and maybe some other parts. Getting matched power tubes are important. As the tube ages they start to drift. here's a link from someone who explains it better then I ever can: http://www.sgheadphones.net/index.php?showtopic=1155 As always using the search funtion is usually helpful ;-)
