Problem is, its battery is internal.

 

Have a look at the iRiver T10 for example.

 

Spec sheets did mention it lasts for about ~50 hours, but with a good single 2700mAh AA battery, one can expect beyong 50 hours of performance that's actually replaceable on the go. I'd consider that to be good, unrestricted battery life

I realized that the newer firmwares cut battery life down faster.

 

Must be all the pointless extra stuff in. Sticking to good ol' 1.13.
