loop_ 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2006 (edited) in my opinion, cds will definitely not become obsolete, at least not in my lifetime. It's very well established, much better than the casette tape ever was, plus an album doesn't need that much storage space anyway, so moving to DVD makes no sense. Attempts to move to a smaller interface like the MD didn't exactly work either. The trend nowadays is not to change formats from CD to something else, but to bypass this altogether through online sales of music, which, as we know, is still well below par in terms of music quality. sacds and dvd audio are already here, but limited only to the audiophile market. I say just go for a cd player. I just bought one. Edited September 17, 2006 by loop_
Charismatic 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2006 guess thats true .. however i always ponder an all in one usually kinda suck when the format war changes again.. u think cd n sacd will become obselete ? Hi StussyK, They will only be obsoleted when no one buying them. The SACD is already 6 years old and CD is more than 2 decades. The LP(album) is even more 'senior' than them and it's still going strong.

Hi again StussyK, You have already answered the question yourself. the iHA-1 don't have CD, DVD-audio, DVD-video, SACD, VCD, etc. As for whether the DAC is similar, I think you will have check the Burr Brown web site as there may be some variation as the Denon one is with DSD decoding. Have a nice weekend.
Mackie 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2006 (edited) stussyking: Looking at the way you are sourcing information, I tend to believe you are trying to research digital audio evolution. If you are truly looking for a cdp for a system, what matters most is to listen and decide. Only your experience will lead U to the light of sonic nirvana. Discussion over a DAC, transport and other circuitry will not facilitate achieving your objective as firstly, preference is subjective and secondly, a product with the best aesthetics, design and/or technology, does not guarantee a sound you love. Even cheap contemporary dvdps sport 24-bit/192KHz DACs but they don't replace 16-bit cdps in audiophiles' systems. On a final note, products sporting the same DAC do not sound the same as the analogue stages that followed after DAC are different, thus, the different sound characteristics. The Denon 3910 is indeed a good dvdp and raved in xtremeplace but not because of its DAC but video quality. It's a feasible choice if you have a home theater system and seeks a player with wide audio compatibility and superb video playback on your plasma/lcd or better yet, a projector. Stereo_Electronics 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2006 Actually if audio products can be purchase and determine by its specs, things would have been a lot easier. And Stussy, whether DAC or DVD player, they will still convert digital to analog signal, just a matter of when. For the DVD player, its either converted with the DAC built-in or the DAC in the AV receiver ( when using a digital cable).
