Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I'm currently using a Cowon A3 and a Beyerdynamic DT660

Looking to venture into the portable AMP region.

any recommendations?

Budget would be < $150, max $200.

Thanks!

Your budget honestly has very limited choice. AMB Mini3 as mentioned is good and value for money. Or you can also look at the new iBasso T4.

I was also about to suggest the Ibasso T4. Slim-looking sleek amplifier that kick up a storm.

What headphones or earphones you want to drive with your AMP? That would be good info rather than just your budget.

Frankly bro, you can't go too far wrong with the mini 3. Can change opamps too to suit your taste.

Having said that you'd still better head down to stereo to give the T4 a run. Mini3 can just ask around i suppose.

hmmm i was told by a friend that it will be a better deal if i were to go for the D2 BOA / D3 Python.

Any comments on that vs the T4?

Also i would like to ask,

since the D2/D3 is a DAC as well.

how can i hook it to to my ESI Near 04?

I'm currently using a FubarII which has 2 RCA that allows me to hook it up to the speakers. but i only see one output on the D2/D3,

how am i able to do the same for these?

Thanks!

I guess u need to get something like this

IPB Image

To change the output of the D3 to RCA for your speakers. I think you need a pair of RCA wires to complete the task too.

Well we didnt suggest D2 or D3 previously because they are both out of your budget.

D3 is value for money for its sound, but its big and bulky and battery charges is an hassle, (cant charge odd number 0f batteries at once, always need a extra battery to make it 6). D3's radio frequency interference is also notorious. Take it into a train full of people using handphones and you know what i mean.

D2 is small, sound is good, but i prefer D3's sound. However D2 is 100 dollars cheaper and has a li-ion battery built in.

People who buy T4 should be primarily attracted by its size and value. I have never heard the T4 before but my guess is D3 should sound better. :)

It really depends on what characteristics you are looking for in a amp, see if DAC, size, sound quality or cost is your main factor of consideration. Research on all those aspects, compare them and decide yourself dude.

Morgan Wu, wouldn't it be better using a direct 3.5mm mini to a RCA cable instead of a connector then a cable. I'm not familiar with the ESI Near 04.... pls correct me if I'm wrong.
