  1. I don't know about Shun Mook...think they are not available in S'pore anymore. Joe Lee of 1388.com used to be the agent. As for the cones, a set of 3 costs $40 at Audio Industries, Adelphi. Look for Henry. Before anyone rushes to buy some, I agree with some members if one doesn't hear the difference, no point embarking on this journey. I shall try if it works for cans and will feedback to U chaps later.
  2. I was thinking of using double-side tape to stick the tweaks on the outside of the cans. Any material in close proximity to a vibrating source will resonate. Depending on the resonating frequency, a cancellation of which can up the ante of the drivers in this case. The same principle is applied to audio systems when such devices are positioned atop gears where the transformers are and mechanical feedback is prevalent. Same goes for placement on speakers.
  3. Maybe I can help. As cans setups are in concern, I guess we can remove room modes (major concern in speakers setups) from the list of factors that affect what we perceive as speed. Every link in the setup (including interconnects/power cords) will either slow or quicken the pace of music. The main aspect that contributes to this perception is bass performance. Take Nordost Red Dawn interconnects for instance, these are fast sounding because bass is a tad lean. The quick recovery or perhaps a lack of deep bass extension (whether we can hear it or not) gives one a sense of speed. If any link or gear leans toward a bassy sound esp having a bloomy lower mid-mid range, speed will be perceived as slower. IMO, bass overhang and too much warmth at the mids gives one a sense of either relaxed or drag...never fast. Listen to the bass lines on HD600 and DT880, the latter will sound faster but when vocals are played, U'll notice the 600 sounds fuller. Hope this helps? ** shrugging **

    I'm done

Ablaze: I have a different take on the hifi journey. I always find the relentless search of sonic perfection (in my own context) to be rather stressful. I've just completed this journey with my speakers setup after 6 months of upgrading, analysis and tweaking. What a relief! Now I can sit down to enjoy the music and spend whatever extra dough I have on cds instead. I do not have high standards of requirement from cans setup and I'm pretty "done" too. Nothing too fancy compared with some of the members here.
  5. Imaging has an inverse relationship with soundstaging. In a speakers setup, toeing the speakers will give sharper imaging but narrower soundstaging. Having the speakers firing at 90 deg will widen soundstaging but imaging will be less sharp. Soundstaging also stretches in several dimensions ie, height, depth and width. In a cans setup, I think the quality of these sonic areas are very dependant on the recorded material. Studio recorded tracks will have sharper imagining than live recording which should give wider soundstaging. After running in my DT880 for 150 hours or so, I discovered it is capable of projecting a really wide and deep soundstaging on tracks from the cd "Karrin Allyson - Ballads"....more so than my ex HD600 (pls don't flame me as view may be biased ). However, height projection is not as obvious than via speakers. There are a couple of tweaks like coins, Shun Mook chess and wooden cones to improve sounstaging and/or imaging when these are placed atop speakers. I wonder if such devices will work with cans. Has anyone tried?
  6. Agree with Rameish. I used to own a HD600 and tried it on a Mackie VLZ1202 pro mixer which did not sound good......thin and dry. After a check with the makers in US, the mixer's headphone circuitry is capable of driving cans up to 600 ohm. Hence, using impedance as a gauge of sound quality is inaccurate. Of course, technicals surrounding low impedance ear buds to high impedance audiophile/pro cans cannot be fully ruled out. Ultimately, let your ears make the decision. If one cannot hear the difference in a pair of cans driven from a socket to head amp, stick to the cheaper alternative then. IMHO.
  7. Wanna do a swop between us or maybe other interested parties can get the pieces and complete the following deal........swopping my MF X-cans V1 + MF X-psu combo (polished and in pristine condition) for your MF X-cans V2. Any interest?
  8. Thanks for the interest, chappies. My cans was sold to a fellow forumer .... but I don't know his nick though. I shall delete this ad later.
  9. Yeah, just extending a link out of courtesy. So here's where U hang out er, ablaze? Btw, the cans are already booked!!! Fast after merely minutes of posting but don't know where this chap saw my ad...shall ask when we meet this evening.
