  1. Thanks, didn't realise that. Will you be able to know how Oscon caps sound compared to the Nichicon FineGolds? I can't find a small sized Nichicon cap in values larger than 470uF. I found the Nichicon FineGold sound good straight off without running in, maybe that's why they are popular. Thanks again Firefox.
  2. ** UPDATE ** I listened to the PAv2 amp on Sunday and was impressed with the sound quality. I noticed that it used electrolytic caps for both input and output decoupling. Seems to be against standard belief that polypropylene is best. As an experiment, I took out my 1uF polypropylene caps used for decoupling the input and put in Nichicons 470uF 10V electrolytic caps instead. The sound immediately opened up, the triangles and high-hats in drumset sound so much better and the high frequency roll off has disappeared. Again, I am not EE guy so I cannot explain this except it alters the input filter but it sure sounds a lot clearer and more acceptable. Any experts care to explain? Also, if you have the time, try to built this amp, I think it is so low cost and easy to built, it is fun!
  3. rips, the first shot of the tap is nice, the 2nd one a bit too cluttered background. Try the ripple shot with a large blue basin, may have nicer background??
  4. I don't think that's true. There are audiologists in SG but whether they are in the private sector I don't know. There is a hearing aid practitioner in Eastpoint at Simei, at least the last time I looked he's there. So, he can do this if you want it done. I wouldn't know about the charges though.
  5. Very good macro shots, firefox. Care to share how you light them? On camera flash?
  6. Pricewise, there isn't much difference between the Solens and the Evox polyprop I used. I don't see why not, go for it.
  7. Thanks huangyong, I missed this pic earlier. Really appreciate it!
  8. Thanks Bram, I like Yogjakarta and Solo, I feel safe there, unlike Jakarta. And the traffic is sane. Go, go!
  9. Thanks Blues, both Prambanan and Borobudur are close to Yogjakarta but in opposite directions. So one day at each place. If you have more time, plan to go to volcanoes. That's my plan for next time.. , I hope. Both Silkair and Garuda flies direct to Yogjakarta.
  10. Thanks N@Z for the tips. I only have PS lite, from maybe 2 years ago. I will look for it and install it.
  11. Use stranded wires, they are less likely to break than solid core wire. If you have no stranded wire, try not to bend the wires again and again.
  12. Can the experts tell me why my first pic is so large while the others are small although their file size are similar. Been trying to get my pics file size small enough to upload. I am using IrfanView to do the size manipulation.
  13. I like this pic best but I am biased by my experience of seeing this old lady obviously poor and yet dignified as she tries to sell bananas to the hawkers at the market. All the above pics taken with my Fuji S1Pro which has been sold... Q00 - The temples are near Yogjakarta in Central Java. Beautiful places, over a thousand years old and the carvings are exquisite.
  14. Becak rider waiting for customer - Solo Central Market.
  15. Rain spout from Borobudur temple.
  16. Rain spout from Prambanan temple.
  17. Sometimes the best way to suck up the solder is to add more solder first and then suck the molten solder. Try it.
  18. Usually you can remove the solder by using a combination of solder sucker and solder wick. Then the wires should drop out. No need to get new pcb. If you really can't manage that, I am sure someone will help you. If you stay near Tampines, I can help you with removing the solder.
  19. If you scroll down to figure 3, it shows the power supply and also the ground which is where you connect r2 and r3 to.
  20. Yes, Bram, very true. I had a Yashica t4* with Carl Zeis lens. No zoom but the pics were as crisp as SLR. But now I don't use film, so it's gathering dust...
  21. dbwinger - I have never seen a 1000uF film cap, muchless a polypropylene one. Where did you see the monster? I am curious. Can't even find a 1uF 63V polypropylene cap which is small enough to fit into mint tins.
  22. Hi red, I am not a doctor but have some medical background. As a parent, I wouldn't do it, as sometimes one won't know if there is any harmful effects until a long time later. However, if the window is closed, it may be harmless as high frequency sound don't travel far nor thru solid materials well, unlike low frequency sounds. Does the gadget really works? In NS, there are people who buys the little gadget for repelling mosquito using ultrasound too. Doesn't work at all!!
  23. I think Bram means the same type of flower.
  24. Here is a picture of the layout to fit into Altoid tin. If you need higher definition pdf file, pm me your e-mail address and I will send you the file. I will send the other layout for Hudson tin when I finish it.
  25. The schematic came from Sijosae (http://www.headphoneamp.co.kr/bbs/zboard.php?id=diy_sijosae&no=188). I got the resistors value for gain of 7 from a DIYer on headfi. I made the layout for using the striped traces perf board myself. Problem with my layout is, with the polypropylene caps I can get, it won't fit into the Hudson tins we can get here. It fits the Altoid tins not available in SG. To fit into the Hudson tins, I can only find Evox polyester caps which is small enough. I will publish my layout later in this thread. Regards.
