    GS1000

I wasn't saying that they don't sound good or are lacking from burn in(I'am skeptical bout it but still played 300hours with them). What I'am saying is that they don't sound close to their $1000 price tag. More like a $600 can. Maybe I was expecting more but nevertheless, its still pure audio bliss for me...

    GS1000

My kids have started to learn, and I'm back at it again. So is the G1000 that great? At Headfi they claimed it was a rediscovery of classical music, or something like that. No. Many new stuff at headfi always gets that extra HooHa and that FOTM praise or wadeva they call it there. Its not gonna blow you away. If you like the sound, it may just be another nice sounding pair of cans but nothing magical or what...I'am not saying that they don't perform well, in fact, I love them alot but they aren't that *great*...Not worth the one grand USD imo...But nevertheless, I still like them alot...

    GS1000

Didn't you already buy a GS1000? Or did Todd ship it to you without a box? Mine came with a USPS box with lots of foam. So it didn't come with the original Grado Box....Dying to see how the Grado Box will look like....I guess I was the first here to get them? Its a good and bad thing...Sacrificed the box for early delivery.

Anyone care to post pictures of the new Grado Box? And where did you get them? Was it at Music By Designs Singapore?

hows your 903sh getting along? i feel like selling mine for the k800i SE Its ok...Kinda felt like getting the 904sh but unlocking seems kinda far away still...So long already and all you get is false hopes....Handphones available now all seem to be the same. For a grand, you'll get the usual bluetooth, 3g, music playback, videos, photos......blah blah blah....Kinda boring...And talking about smart phones, I don't really need thier functions as well...

    Grado SR 225

I read on headfi (take it with a pinch of salt though...) that its very neutral and flat sounding....Suitable for studio work but because of that, it may not sound as great for listening to music normally. Neutral? IMHO, far from it. For eg, HFI650, I learnt what's on the extreme end of a transparent sound. HFI-2000 fares better and so does the lower end HFI-15. I actually considered the latter for portable purpose but the generally higher prices of Ultrasone does not offer similar value for money seen in other competitive brands. Like I said, I read it...I've not personally tried them to testify this...But it seems that ultrasone cans are rather rare and not so well known to the public....

Btw, i remember this shop at the basement of Paradiz Centre that sells alot of guitars as well as studio equipments by M-Audio and they also care Ultrasone headphones...I wonder if they're the dealer for ultrasone cans...Imo, those ultrasone cans look pretty cool but a little plasticky...Would really like to try them and see how they sound....

    DAC

It's huge and heavy (more than 20Kgs in all). There are 4 dedicated power supplies; display, digital stage, analogue stage and finally, transport mechanism. This is one player you won't hear digital glare as it's so analogue sounding. I'm an avid LP lover and I can safely attest to it. In addition, it has very high resolution (even at 24/96) and as such, you can hear all details without the need to increase volume output. Argh, I hate you....Making me going crazy over it.....ZZZZ......This hobby is getting expensive..... Btw, I love your speaker setup and stuff. Its really neat!

Hey mack, I see that you've got the Electocompanient EMC-1 as well. It looks enourmous!!! Btw, how's the on board DAC compared to the benchmark? I've decided to drop the thought of a computer setup and will be aiming for that player. Seems like a really really good buy. The price isn't say SKY HIGH or what as compared to the NAIM players. So tell me, does it sound vinyl like? I've read reviews about them and quite a few people commented about that. If that is true, I'll love it even more!

I'll be using the headphones out from an amp. However, that is after I've gotten my amp...

For me, I do not use the PC as a transport. Its more of ripping them using EAC and playing back from there. I liked the PC based system for its convenience but alternatively, I also like the CDP system for its pure musical bliss and interference free-ness....Its really hard to decide. But Mackie has given me a good suggestion and I'll really look into it. I called up High End Research and enquired about the player and it seems like a very good buy although price is kinda steep for me....(a little over my budget.... ) Cause I never planned spending so much on a source. However, when I thought about it, the player should and would offer me a stable platform to built on in the near future if i were to venture off into the hi-fi world....Moreover, I would like to get a system that lasts for at least a decade or half... The EMC-1UP seems to have all of the great features that I've been looking for. I was thinking of getting a Transport + a DAC like the benchmark DAC-1 but there were problems of system synergy, jitter as well as the power source for two units....I guess that would end up costly....Thus I looked into the $2000 range CD players and wanted to find one that has a DAC that at least matched up to that of the Benchmark DAC-1 if not better but it seemed to be a futile attempt. Then I looked at PC-based systems and then there was this convenience that was hard to beat but things seemed a little complicated here because I'am beginning to deal with more complicated things here....Noise from the computer and fan, troublesome ripping of CD's to EAC (i agree with that) as well as possibility of hard disc crashes and the amount of space taken up from all the songs... What's more is that the DAC's recommended for the PC setup all seem to have their group of loyal supporters and its hard for me to decipher what's good and what's not from all the different comments posted online. I was kinda keen about the Zhao Lu DAC at first but read a few very very negative comments about thier built and durability, let alone the sound. Then some were suggesting the Stello DAC while people said that USB connection isn't a wise choice because of the amount of interference. Moreover, PC based solutions also had problems of jitter.... So there I have it, Jitter, EAC, harddisk failure, a sea of DAC's that I've no experience with + all the troubles of setting them up... And then I saw Mackie's EMC-1UP, steep price, but seems like a wholesome and complete enough setup to satisfy my lusts....Plus the good looks....Maybe I'll start saving for it. Tell you what, this is the first and only CDP/source that I've really got the urge to purchase....Moreover, its available locally which means I'll be able to audition it...That's a major PLUS PLUS! However, if somehow down the route, I've decided to go back to my PC-based solution route, I guess I'll get either the Benchmark DAC-1/Grace 902m. The Stello's the Bel Canto's as well as the many other stuff that I've looked through these few days just don't seem to satisfy my needs well enough...Durability, (future proof?), and performance, none of the stuff I've looked at really meets all these 3 points.

I did take a look at that player....Its pretty darn nice but the price is a little over my budget for the time being. I guess I'll wait for a while and decide on that player instead. Seems like it solves quite alot of my worries about CD players with a moderate DAC or Transport + DAC jitter issues...Thanks for that MAckie! Plus point for the player is that it looks amazingly sexy...Sleek black...I gotta hate you for that Mackie!! There goes my wallet again....

Hmmm, so if i were to go for the CD route, then probably, I'll look into the CARY CDP-1. As for the Eastsound, are there any companies here carrying them ?

OK, lets say i decide to get a CDP instead, how's a second hand sony SCD-XA333ES SACD player or a Myryad MCD200 player?
  22. razer

    DAC

Btw, how are these two players....One is the SCD-XA333ES SACD player and the other one is the Myryad MCD200. I've read some reviews on the myryad player but its sort of mixed...with some people loving them and some hating them...As for the sony player, i can't seem to find any info on them... And btw, regarding the the post by viix, you mean that you're suggesting i get something like the Squeezebox and then connect to an amp ? Or do I get it and connect it to the dac then to the amp? I've seen some people having the squeeze box to their storm digital 002 and then to their headphone amp.

Wow, that was a good read....Well, how should I start off with....hmmmm, ok, first of all, I don't listen to top notch recording or funny audiophile music. The best recording's that I've got is maybe DARK SIDE OF THE MOON by Pink Floyd and HELL FREEZES OVER by the Eagles as well as my Jazz At The Pawnshop album...That's got to be the best I've got...Other than that, most of my other music selection are albums like chinese pop, english pop, jazz and some classical with a quite a few Japan pressed Jap albums and stuff like that. None of my albums are pressed or released for the Mainland so I guess at least that's one of my least worries. Overall album qualities of my CD's should be above average i guess. The reason why a CDP to DAC and to AMP would be good is because of the noise issue from my computer but then again, a computer setup gives me so much convenience....So I'am sort of like in a Dilemna between choosing which route to take....

So may i ask you what are you connecting your DAC-1 to ?
