  1. it helps a lot.. i use a lot of them all sizes. i even shrank a computer ide cable b4 leave it on the wire first, after soldering, just push tubing in place and use a ligher to shrink it. its important for diy 3.5mm plugs etc cuz sometimes the ground and either left/right is v close to the plug casing.. easy short
  2. hmm~~ both in excellent working condition~.. short of 15 ohm cross over, either get from martin for $300, or get someone else to do it for me, maybe even consider the commercial cicables. if everything goes well. i guess its an ls3/5a for a real budget price
  3. heeehee!! just found a pair of b110 sp1003.. heeeheee~~~~
  4. check pm you can request digi to put in top notch parts, easier for him to one of max out the diy job, so you dont have to re-work on it yourself.
  5. add him on msn!! he's online most of the time, computer on 24/7, but only around during working hours friendly guy. postage's well packed too
  6. lol congrats.. you managed to catch the hum
  7. probably power related. i had an old japanese airtight tube amp, transformer faulty after a few years, similar 50hz hum..
  8. lol i've got a half done up PPA that huangyong did, wanted to make a PPA too back then.. but decided to quit headfi its a pretty decent amp. put in good parts, and tada, good performance.
  9. this problem very hard to catch.. last time i know one fella who diyed a 100+ watt tube amp using 8 kt88s.. couldnt solve the hum problem.. sold the $1k+ diy project for $200 to another person who managed to troubleshoot by relocating the switch to the back of the casing instead of the front.. i too cope with some hp amp hum as well, i put a resistor to the output.. for the convenience of it.. lazy to troubleshoot.. and so far the hum's inaudible with higher resistance headphones values of resistances you can try range from 50 ohm, to 300+ ohm if you like. according to digi01, its recommended at 10% of headphone impedance. well i ignore that and tried various resistances + did listening tests, i felt 250 ohm to be good for me. insanely high.. its like putting 2 x 120ohm adaptor plugs.. but.. hehe my mileage may vary
  10. your tube standing straight or lying horizontal?
  11. see if any power carrying line crosses the tube etc. try to isolate as far as possible cuz the hum you're hearing is probably a 50-60 ac hum that's common with tube amps. tubes are at times microphonic and pick up these unwanted freqs.. else add probably 50-100 ohms to the output may help reduce hum too.
  12. *interested in buying your cable separate have smsed you thanks
  13. saw the neutriks, but didnt want to spend so much on an experiment i'm using a screw tighten-ed sort of rca plug.. you have to unscrew to loosen, plug in, and as you tighten the cylinder, it bites and forces the plug head to bite onto the rca point real tight.. cant remove without unscrewing probably when i'm freeier might do a a/b comparison, left and right diff rca cables, and use amp's output balance alternate between left and right and observe the differences. i used to do that for speaker cables. i observed the difference just now using an OTL hp amp so it would definitely be different when i try it on my main hifi setup
  14. was a lil cynical, but heard some rumours that the belden 89259 is cable which high end interconnects incorporate.. decided to try it out bought 2m from LHS at $9 per metre, and 4 x high quality plugs at $4.50 each did up a pair of i/c and was surprised. comparing it against the other interconnects i had, hitachis/straightwire etc, this interconnect's quite impressive, very detailed, clean sounding. low freqs clarity was really good. much more mellow than my straightwires that had a bit more sibilance, and was more detailed/clearer than hitachis without losing the mellowness. if one's looking for a good budget i/c, i would think this could be a very good choice
  15. uncommon tubes.. radio toobs.. probably could either buy from overseas or check with martin/well audio. not many places in singapore have a decent range of tubes
  16. i m a slight cynic some times. because most of the time i realise the SBS bus or the mrt is noisier than my earbuds at my regular listening volume. had to crank the vol up in the past.
  17. i have a poor tolerance for highs.. so the e5 suits me well.. doenst match the clarity of etys though...
  18. got it from huangyong who assembled it a while back, wanted to do up a PPA, but have decided to quit headfi quality parts uses nichihon fine gold caps, nichihon muse caps, wima caps, good sockets etc. going cheap as well asking for $40 only -> collect from khatib
  19. yup.. exactly 1 full set.. Average Part cost 1. 2 x Female Jack = $1 2. 2 x Male jack = $1.40 3. 2 set of IRF 610, LM317, K30a total = $14 (from federal compo) 4. 2 x 2.2k trim pot = $1.40 5. 4 x heatsink = $4 (from federal compo) 6. 2 x 3.5mm jack = $1.20 7. Knob = $1.20 8. Generic 50k pot = $2.50 9. 3 x Capacitors generic = $2.10 10. Shielded Ceramic tube socket = $4 (from martin electronics) 11. China Made 6n11/6922 = $5 12. 2m connecting wire = $2 13. Bunch of resistors = $0.20 14. Bread board = $4 total part cost's $44 going at $30, collect from khatib mrt any negotiations etc, pls drop me a pm thanks
  20. been back to hifi for quite a long while.. hmm.. which tubes do you need? i've got spare ecc81, ecc83, 6922 lying around and a couple of sockets as well just checked.. i've got almost the full sijosae parts too, except probably need a single turn 2.2k trim pot instead of 2k multi turn trims what is the brand of your ecc83? i've got a pair of generic ecc83, probably made in russia, and a pair of mullards mullards was abt 65 a piece.. generic russians.. no brand.. no price either LOL
