  1. one product discount per year?! either: a. your friend is lying b. creative is the most &*$&^@* company i've ever seen. this is absolutely ridiculous. frankly, i dont think much of the rest of the creative lines. i can see where they're overall plan is going.. but their execution simply sucks.
  2. the mod for the ex71 is filling up the holes on the back with blutack, and if you like the change in sound, removing the blutack and replacing it with superglue.
  3. binaural recordings.. no, i'm sorry, i've never noticed them there. ditto for sacds. adn fuwen i know what you mean. all music stores nowadays are stocking '6 month music'. '6 month music'? yeah. you forget abt it in 6 months.
  4. some sembawang music centres stock classical xrcds. if you dont know what xrcds are, think fully-compatible redbook with better than hdcd resolution. but, oh, how expensive! >30$!!
  5. their primary labels are dgg, decca, philips, naxos, hyperion and naxos historical. less of emi (mostly box sets). less of sony classical (usually one-off impt recordings like glen gould's goldberd var.). fuwen, you can order anything through her - it's just how willing you are to wait. and i'm sure that her prices will beat towerrecords.com's anytime once the cds get in.
  6. hey all, just wanna inform everyone out there that there is an EXCELLENT classical music store in town. it's called Sing Music, and it's at Lucky Plaza #02-75, and it's the local classical scene's best kept secret. musicians and classical music lovers alike patronise this store, if you are a Friend of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, you might have heard about this store - your membership entitles you to 10% off everything in the store. abt the store.. think a small, intimate sort of store filled with classical recordings. not maksim, josh groban, charlotte church or any of those 'crossover' classical acts. i mean REAL classical music. i kid you not when i say that the selection of this tiny store rivals that of HMV and Tower Records in both terms of quality (esp. quality) and perhaps quantity. most of the recordings in her store are critically acclaimed, and i do not think that is by coincidence. the store, like hmv/tower, also has complete catalogues of all the major labels, the penguin guide to classical cds and the gramophone good cd guide for you to browse. the store's owner is a lovely lady named Doris. she remembers frequent customers by name and will greet you and give you personalised service. certainly not like those bo-chup slackers in hmv (more on that later)! she also takes orders for classical cds and will pursue records for you like a very very very hungry rottweiler. example: i went to hmv and ordered a cd. 4 months later, they call me up and tell me that they cannot find it. 4 months! i had already forgotten abt my order by then! then i walk into her shop, and there it is lying on the shelf. and i've left the best for last - the prices. prices are approx. 10-20% less than hmv/tower on average. example: Beethoven's Symp.9 w Karajan and the BPO (1977) is $18 there. in hmv it's $24.50. so what are you waiting for?! get down there!
  7. 2 more cds added - enjoy! original post updated to reflect successful sale to cmk.
  8. then what abt the 40gb? alamak this is looking bad.. issit you called the 63342278 number?
  9. original post updated to reflect reservations by maniac. maniac, ygpm.
  10. do note that the nx has a smaller screen than the xtra tho.. that's one of the main reasons why i'm getting the xtra - besides larger storage. EDIT: and forgot to mention that the software included with the xtra is better too apparently.
  11. mmatrix, i am looking for the 40gb version. 60gb is a bit of overkill for me. any linkage for that? i notice that the 'buy' pages for the zens are NOT linked anywhere on the site. harlow, you have lobang for helping us get the xtra at staff discount prices? paris, i was considering getting a friend to order from amazon.com, then shipping it over.
  12. original post has been updated to reflect reservations. sorry cmk 1 has already been sold, on jan 11. and.. 2 new cds added!
  13. hey all.. been a long time since i posted. it's good to be back. anyway.. i'm looking around for a good mp3 player that is generous on the storage and easy on the price while being easy on the eyes still. i've decided on the creative zen xrta 40/60gb model. why not ipod you ask? 1. far too expensive, not cost effective at all 2. expensive to maintain (battery's 50 to replace) 3. everyone has it anyway, i have been searching around sls for the zen xtra, but HAVE NOT FOUND IT YET. everytime i ask the storekeepers they give me a blank look then direct me to 1st gen zens or zn nx's. which are NOT what i want. the xtra has a. larger storage b. larger lcd screen c. improved user interface when compared to the plain zen or zen nx. so has anyone seen these around? and if you have, could yu get back to me with the prices? going on what i've seen so far it may sound ridiculous but i may get the xtra cheaper from the states.

  15. hi, pls change my status to tbc. thank you. if i can come i will certainly bring my e2.
  16. what about the bush mtt? only 50 pounds (about 150 sing), has a five star rating from what hifi? and comes with a built in phono stage.
  17. actually, a slight hiss means that the recording is an analog one. no hiss at all means that a recording is a digital one. a hiss is not a flaw. all LPs have hiss, no matter how soft. many cds have a hiss that no amount of remastering and editing can remove completely without affecting the sound negatively. not clear what i mean? look on your cd case, (especially on classical cds) there should be a small box somewhere with the 3 letters DDD ADD or AAD. what do they mean? AAD: recorded in analog, analog mixing, digital transfer ADD: recorded in analog, digital mixing, digital transfer DDD: recorded in digital, digital mixing, digital transfer the transfer medium is always digital as cds are, after all, a digital format. digital recordings potentially allow for a greater frequency capture, but typically analog recordings are of a better quality due to the maturity of the technology. for example for sony classical's recent re-release of glenn gould's the goldberg variations, the recording engineers decided that the analog recording of the performance, which was recorded alongside a digital version, sounded better. so they remastered the analog performance for the re-release instead of the digital one. but seriously, this should be the last thing on your mind when buying cds..
  18. they managed to blow a speaker?! wow! wait.. are we talking about the same thing here?
  19. it's a bit ridiculous - for that price you could get a new pcdp!
  20. exactly as lekguan said. clicks, pops, brrps, shrsps (you'll understand when you hear them.. ) are common on wavs ripped from dirty cds.
  21. i believe no one here on this forum has experience with the dcm31. however, if it makes any difference, What Hi-Fi magazine gives it a full five stars and declares it better than it's predeccessor, the dcm30, which was a award-winning product. basically, IMO, for that price and style, you cant go wrong. the sound quality (IMO) should be at the very least decent-good.
