  1. MTP =/= UMS In short, for Sony's case -> SonicStage
  2. But you're forgetting one thing with regard to Sonys -> MTP
  3. I can't exactly explain it, but its something that you can feel. Bass gives a song strength and definition and carries the song, working as a foundation/floor (eg bass drum), midrange gives the song body and intimacy (eg vocals) and treble gives the song its supposed detail and perhaps for some a sense of air (eg triangles). Divide treble into 3 portions, lower-pitch treble, middle-pitch treble and high pitch treble, lower treble is the treble region that comes after around the 3000Hz region. It affects the 'upper body' of the music and partially affects sense of intimacy/distance a bit and affects treble more as a whole I guess, giving a perception of lack of detail and as far as what some would say, muddiness.
  4. What the UM1 suffers from is lower treble rolloff, its extreme highs shouldn't have this problem, but upping them can create a 'sense' of air which can be quite fun, but after a while fatiguing and falsifies actual sound quality. In a 10 band EQ, try upping bands 7 and 8, with 8 less than 7, can also try upping 9 just a bit, and as for he 10th band (If its anywhere set from 16kHz to 20kHz) you can up it as much as you want just for kicks.
  5. EAC should be 'better' since if you follow the proper EAC settings, it rips the songs into your HDD in a bit for bit perfection right down to the last binary digit data in a much slower fashion than iTunes. In converting the lossless files into compressed music however, its the LAME that does the job, so as long as its the same version, the quality output should be similar.
  6. Hardware based output > Software based output IMO
  7. Yes, he's from Head-Fi. You can reach his site here: http://phonephile.blogspot.com/ You can call me a Bangra-fan. He's the one I learnt most of my knowledge from
  8. Nah, I have the Shure E4 which I also find more balanced than the Westones as well, so that'll be enough unless I need a backup phone
  9. Depends on your tastes. Some people here dn't EQ, some are EQ minimalists. Most DAP EQs CMI anyway.
  10. I'm not sure. I just know that part is applicable for the 3G iPod (110mW total @ 16 Ohm impedance) when it was directly compared to the Rio Karma back in Head-Fi, and I'm assuming the power output hasn't been changed for the other iPods up till the 5G. Bangraman did mention that if the same technology and HP out power output of the Nano was identical to the HDD iPods, it could very well be the most powerful flash player in the market as of now, but the word 'if' comes into play. If Bangraman himself is not certain, then I for one will not dare to take any form of stand XP
  11. Sensitivity can also affect phone loudness. Say for example Cresyn LMX-E630 VS Shure E5, 96dB/mW sensitivity @ 16 Ohms VS 122dB/mW at 110 (!) Ohms. The E5 is supposed to be more difficult to drive as compared to the Cresyn, but at similar volume settings the E5 is louder. The iAudio U3 and iAudio 6 60mW tally is achieved through software means if I remember correctly, whcih is why even a 40mW tally iAudio X5 can reach higher volume levels as compared to both U3 and 6, so this is another factor to take into consideration. Power output also plays a role though, and a reason why iPods can go very loud is because of their (supposed) 110mW tallied output.
  12. Hopefully they'll release the UMS firmware soon. The iRiver T series from what I know comes in 2 forms, the disgusting MTP versions for the western market and the UMS versions for the Asian market. Hmmm, I wonder why.
  13. 2GB T10, I am tempted Now if only they have a 4GB T10, I'm sold XP
  14. Apple SG, Hung Bros and SE all carry UE.
  15. If the x51 is anything like the x50 or improved, it should compare favourably with any of the top end players if not match or surpass them Be sure to use a gapless player software if you play live albums.
  16. UM1s are comfy, that's for sure. Try adding a 75 Ohm resistor in the line (as afbug said) and you'd get a more balanced phone out of it
  17. phyron] 1:04 am: I look ugly [D2R2] 1:04 am: You sound very attractive. [Zephyron] 1:04 am: I do? [D2R2] 1:04 am: you do Zephyron. OMG!
  18. My gosh, you guys are abusing D2R2 *lol*
  19. PG Strike w/ Sky Grasper? Or better yet, get the Ex-S Gundam 1/100 MG model On an audio note, get the Sony MDR-EX90? Its not gonna isolate well, but supposedly it sounds good and you can let us test it when you come back
  20. Exactly. The Video on the iPod 5G was probably just put in to complement the colour screen... but at 16 bits colour, its bleh with a horrid battery life on Video mode (Good example on LCD battery drainage when HDD continuously runs and memory is being continuously read from, its the same as reading a lossless file like FLAC, but the screen doesn't help). I'd rather them put a BnW screen on the damn thing and give it no video, but hey, the common crowd don't do research before getting any kinda players that have the "cool" stuff anyway (Hey Zeph, what's that small iPod you're wearing round the nec... *punch*) so... there we have it, what could've been a good player loaded with a crapload of pointless gimmicks.
  21. Ah, but the A2 isn't merely a music player. Its built for portable video, different story altogether bro
  22. But few good models to none left with a simple bnW navigatable screen I'd love an iRiver H120/140 for this
  23. For me, screen isn't an important factor. I'd love a black and white LCD screen more than anything else because IMO, colour screen on a music player is an uncalled for, uneeded sxtra unecessary feature that only serv es to suck up extra battery life and should be abolished altogether for the greater good of music, not some fancy show offy screen thingamajig things.
  24. Transportable set-up wih car battery + mini-LCD screen? Mine are: iAudio U3 + Shure E4G And/or Nintendo DS + Castlevania DS for animation studies (Alucard's 2D sprite still remains the best animated sprite in the video gaming world as of today) w/ Megaman Zero in the sub-slot. Gameboy Advance SP + wireless adapter w/ Pokemon Emerald/Sapphire/Fire Red/Leaf Green in case I meet anyone else for a trade/challenge.
  25. Its looking kinda nice tho. UMS is a very important factor to me. May wanna see what the power output of the thing is.
