  2. Maybe this will give you a better picture: Those IEMs with interchangeable tips are known as "Universal" IEMs. It can be bought off the shelf and ANYONE can use it. However, you can also make Custom tips to fit onto them. The Custom tips can be taken away from the IEMs as and when you like. That also makes it possible for you to sell you IEM when you want to in the future. "Full Custom" IEMS are those with integrated drivers. The Drivers are sealed into the Custom Ear Mold and are not removable. Full Custom IEMs are very personal and can only be used be the user whose ear fits the Mold. They cannot be bought off the shelf and must have the user's ear impressions be taken by a certified audiologist before the earphone maker can actually produce the IEM. Hope this helps.
  3. Will be out of the country for this weekend. Any dealings will have to be from 29th Dec onwards. Happy weekends!
  4. They do look really nice and easy but some had complaints about the tips. I guess doing a little Mod or something might actually improve on the stock.
  5. I'd like to try them with my new i-Qube... We have some reviews at Head-fi, but I'm not sure if anyone here will want to actually spend to try it out.
  6. Mustang P-51 SOLD. Silver Master-i LOD still up for sale.
  7. Hi, If you talk about using them on the bus or train, these portable cans are not going to isolate very well. I tried using my ESW10 on the bus but the isolation is pretty poor, especially when you sit at the rear near the engine. My advice is, if you can stand sticking things into your ears, get an IEM instead. Those will provide good isolation and still sound good. The headphones you mentioned are better for stationary use in quieter areas, eg, library, home, etc. Regards.

    My DIYMod

Does the headphone out still work like the iMod?
  12. At the rate I'm using the shure black foams... I seriously think I have spent close to a custom sleeve... maybe it's about time.
  13. Arrggghhh... Need to spend...more...money...to...save...my.... eeeaarrrssss....
  14. The Tips should be removed with the twisting motion and not forcefully straight out. Try to twist the tip parallel to the nozzle and not bend around with force as you may break the tube. Comply Tips are very comfortable and gives quite a good seal but they also have the shortest lifespan. At average, mine will lose it's seal and turn yellow in about a week. My current best choice of tips is the Shure black foams. They last a lot longer and can be washed and reused maybe once or twice before losing seal. They are also very comfortable and to me provide a better seal and texture. Anyway if you can live with the silicone or rubber type flanged tips, those will go a long way with frequent cleaning using denatured alcohol or methylated spirit (bought from Guardian Pharmacy). Someday you might even venture into making your own Custom Ear Molds or Integrated full custom IEMs. Those provide the best personal fit.
  15. I don't really like wearing earphones over the ears. I had bad experiences with the wires going from the back. I used to wear my UM1 the conventional way but the Y joint was going too near my neck. I might just try the APS next year. Till then, I won't mind letting you try and from there we can see how it's going to convince your wallet to go on a diet. Dragonboy : Care to share how the ACS improves over the ER4P?
  16. The ER4P has got a very punchy and articulated bass and is ample till I've gotten used to me ESW10. My only IEM now, the ER4P is driven by the Mustang with an S adapter (ER4P-24). I'm only very irritated with the cable clutter and the bulky Y joint area which requires a clip for support. I'm truly keen on getting the APS cables for them to hear to changes and clear the bulk but it actually takes about a month for them to make. Anyway, an iMod first... 1pin: And please be really careful while changing the tips for your UM1. Try not to use brute force as the tubes are fragile. As for the removing the earphones from your ears, remove them by the drivers and not by the wires. With proper care the UM1 is going to last (but not till your craving starts).
  17. It takes some time getting used to. New wires are stiff and they tend to slip. I'm sure you'll master putting them on as quickly in no time. Try the different tips and use the ones that fit and sounds best for you. Alternatively you can also experiment with tips from other brands like shure that fits your UM1. One thing is for certain, as you spend and acquire better earphones, the change is little but the price is a leap difference. It's up to you to justify that. Eventually you might want to add a portable amp to enhance your set up or go for iMods, etc, when you have a better budget.
  18. I first went with an iBasso D3 and that was when I decided on the Mustang. Although as of now, without an inbuilt DAC for my Mustang, I currently plan on getting a USB DAC such as a GoVibe to use with my Mac. If you really want to skip the upgrading process, head down to stereo and have a good listen to the various amps. You can give them a few visits without buying first and give all the amps a good listen. That can actually give you a better picture of what to expect. You should definitely try the iQube. As for my case, I don't usually use my Mac to play my music, so an inbuilt DAC is not my priority. It really boils down to your personal usage and how you want to work your set up.
  19. I agree with Morgan. You can always get something from those $2 shops or Daiso. They just need to be some really small air tight container or bags for the earphones. As for Silica pellets, I have them kept in really tiny air tight bags and make some holes in them. I believe there are ready packed ones but I bought mine in bulk from some photo studio at peninsular plaza. It is cheaper at the expense of convenience. Silica pellets can actually be reused. I believe uncle Wilson from Jaben did something like frying them to renew it's effect. Alternatively Google is your best friend.
  20. Hi, I recommended the UM1s cause you wanted something with bass. But I myself love Etymotics and went from ER6i to ER4P/S. The good thing about Stereo Electronics is that they allow you to try their stuffs at your own pace and privacy. You won't feel obligated to buy if you don't like a certain product. But trust me you will walk away with something... Like my ESW10...
  21. I personally have the Mustang but also like the iQube. The iQube should be in the S$700+ region. I bought my Mustang direct from RSA with the Xmas promo, S$600 shipped. Then again you might want to venture into the iBasso series for a good value : SQ ratio. As for the D3 I used to own one but could not tolerate RF interference. I have not tried the rest and cannot comment. All of them should be pretty good to last you sometime.
