  1. Hey moonwalker, If you are looking for soundstage and for vocals, can try the AKG K501. Bass-wise this cans isn't good. But if paired with a good headphone amp, this cans is great for vocals and best is classical. I bought mine almost ten years back for around $200. Since this model has been discountinued, the prices have generally increased. Last heard it was selling at around $300-$350 new.
  2. Hey Spells, My own experience with wireless isn't that good. Do you really need to go wireless? A budget of 600 can go for a good wired headphones with one good pair of extension cables.. Wireless may be acceptable for movies but for hifi...
  3. Hey Dio, Think personally if you are looking for $200 upwards range of headphones, you may need to spend some on a portable amp. If not, there won't be much difference in the sound quality between a more expensive cans and cheaper ones. You may end up paying only for comestics reasons for the cans..

  5. KEC from Adelphi selling 5001 at 289....
  6. Hi, Just to ask you got your darkvoice from classifieds? or any dealer?
  7. Have personally tried with only x-fi xtreme music soundcard, don't think it is considered 'high-end'. But need to take note is if using computer, u are playing via the cd/dvd-rom. your dac is actually on the soundcard itself. The focus is different as compared to a CDP. Soundcard their focus is only producing sound for games/effects. But CDP need to sound more musical. In my own opinion, cannot compare computer and CDP together.
  8. well, my setup as below: CD17-MK3 -> heed canamp -> Audio Technica ATH A950LTD/AKG K501 after a couple of days with the new source, I can say the most impressive part is how musical the music sounds. Its bass is not too heavy but mid-range is ok. Most suitable for newage/jazz/vocal. As for classical music, it depends on the cd recordings itself. If use this CDP on pop music, i can only say it is a waste on a CDP, as a budget CD5001 can also do a pretty good job on pop music. If there is any CD17-MK3 users around, I would strongly recommend you all to revisit the player with Michael Hedges's guitar solos. Words can only say so much on how impressed I am. One more important point I wished to add is that this player really tells you the difference between a normal mastered cd and those audiophile recording. With this player, the quality of the cd can be clearly differentiated. Suddenly, corrinne may, susan wong sound so much nicer. To be fair, I have not tried a wide range of sources so I cannot say this CDP is the best around in the market. But to me, it is well worth it. I bought the last piece from KEC, so folks, need to try your luck elsewhere if intend to get this player. By the way, this model has long been discontinued..... P.S. - Pardon me for my poor language, I am not good at describing music, but after all, this hobby really varies to each individual.
  9. Back in the days when I'm still using discman, I can also hear the diff between Sony and Panasonic discman. But between those $150s - $300 discman under same brand, seldom you can hear and difference.... Anyway I just bought the CD-17 MKIII, very worth it...
  10. Hmm, maybe let me repharse myself. Since this is the first time I am buying a CDP myself, I am wondering if between a budget player and mid-range player, the difference is in the lens used, or function or does the line out 'upgraded' as well. Sad to say I am not comfortable in bringing my cans/amp/interconnect around to auditions... Just to add further, Cans: AKG K501, Audio Technica ATH-A950LTD Amp: Heed canamp Interconnect: QED 2 Any recommended CDP below $1000? I am asking for recommended CDP just for some guidelines as to facilitate my auditions. -Rameish Ok I know this is a headphone forum, but I am setting up my rig for headphone use so I thought may get some advice from fellow headphone users here..
  11. Hi dear forumers, I am getting a CD player to be used solely for my headphone amp-headphone, thus only using the line-out of the cd player. May I know does it make a lot of difference in getting a budget marantz(say 4000 or 5001) or a mid-range one(around $600 - $900)? I know I should try to post this question in headphone forum(e.g. sgheadphone/headphonehaven/head-fi) but most of the forumers there are using portable/mp3 sources. Hope to have some assistance here.
