  1. Hmmm... a good portable source would be the iMod. As for a home set-up, well... dedicated CDP ranges from $300 - $20K.... so 'good' is relative And there's always vinyl. hehe. Not very helpful I know. But perhaps we can give you better recommendations based on your existing set-up.
  2. Hmm... is getting 3 similar headphones a good idea? Anyway, can I also add that the Sennheiser PX100 (open-design) is also rather highly regarded. The SQ is purportedly substantially better than its sibling, the PX200 (closed-design) Happy shopping!
  3. I'll have to agree with Singapura here. I/Cs do make a difference. But more importantly, you should consider the SYNERGY with your existing rig. An expensive i/c does not necessarily sound better than a cheaper one in a particular system. For me, the upgrade chain should be headphones/earphones --> source (i.e. DAP with lineout and AT LEAST 192kbps music file. PCDP's better still if you don't mind lugging it around) --> amp --> i/c. Cheers
  4. slwiser and yotiao. Would you mind sharing some PICTURES of your set-up please?
  5. Wow!! That's a really impressive array of headphones you have there Congrats on your purchase!
  6. Hi Selling a 1 month old Grover S graphite i/c interconnect. Cost USD150 excluding shipping If you buy directly from Grover. Drop me a PM with your offer if interested. Cheers
  7. You can try Beyerdynamics.. quite a few options for you to choose from. Most of the higher end models have impedance of either 32ohms/80ohms/250 ohms. Senns would be out for you. the HD600 and HD650 are 300 ohms. even the HD595 is pretty difficult to drive at 50 ohms.
  8. take a regular panasonic/sony/ibud then a Super.fi 3 and a UE10. Listen for yourself. Why don't you do a blind test and ask yourself if there's any difference. Price-wise... that's another issue altogether
  9. All these are available from Jaben Archival CD Beyer Dynamic A1 C&C Amps CrossRoads Firestone HeadAmp Lavry Lehmann Audio Millet Amps MiniBox Amps mSeed Amps Original CDP Ray Samuels amps Triad Audio Amps
  10. I think a DT880 plus iCute's pretty good
  11. Anyone who's willing to part with your beloved RS-1, please let me know. Thx
  12. I'm not too sure about that. I think the Yamamoto does. but it costs almost US$1000 already. I feel that these two systems are pretty difficult to compare - sound-wise and cost-wise. A speaker system can be enjoyed by many and it gives you THE 'feel' while a headphones system is exclusively for the headphone user (2 max) although it gives you lots of details. So you'll have to weight the cost-benefit of each system. You're right. The price of the is slightly more that double the CD5001. I thought that the build is really solid, no problems so far. Sound-wise. Diff people says differently - some say it's TOO clinical, but not to me Although the set-up above is already S$1.8K, it gives you a completely different sound from a home theatre system. I ever listened to a same set-up using a stereo amp and a HT amp of the same price range and the difference is pretty apparent. So once again, I guess you'll have to decide what you're using your system for. Actually, tubes system doesnt require A LOT of maintenance. Tubes last almost forever (can't remember how many hours but I believe casual listening will last a couple of years) and spare tubes for my Mapletree cost <S$50. Seems like you've been reading up at Head-fi. What are the SS amps that have caught your eye? There's someone in the classfieds selling his Gilmore Lite. Perhaps you can get an audition and negotiate the price a little.
  13. Well.. the amps that you've read about on Head-fi are 'mostly' unavailable in Singapore. Jaben at Adelphi carries the RSA Tomahawk, Hornet and SR-71, Headamp AE-2, Go-Vibes, C&C, Xtra and a couple of other brands. Reasonably priced i'd say. There's also the Taiwanese Firestone products.. pretty good stuffs. Stereo Electronics has got the audio-technicas and the Xenos I believe. Alpha Audio has got the X-Cans. Anyway, there's also the Classifieds if you dun mind used. A couple of Portaphiles there at the moment i think. Oh ya. There's also our locally made Diva amps. Available at Sky Audio.
  14. Hi Malcolm.. There are opinions that tube amps work best with the MS2, or more precisely.. grados in general. However, if you fancy clarify and details.. that's generally the forte of a SS amp. Therefore, you might consider building your system around one that offers you details. Brands like Marantz are generally considered as warm sounding while the Cambridge Audio is quite clinical. Are you looking towards buying a dedicated headphone amp or do you want an integrated amp for speakers? This is because the headphones out from integrated amps or even some CDPs that are pretty reasonable. For myself, I am planning to pair the MS2i with a CA 640Cv2 and a Mapletree Audio Ear+ headphone amp.
  15. Hello Malcolm.... Could you please define reasonable price? I think it's kinda relative...
  16. Yup Yup. If you feel that 'soundstage' of the MS-1 is already better than the Mylars.. wait til you try the Beyers, Senns and AKGs! (in that order)
  17. I WANT THESE>>> but i dun have a torch!! ARGH! NICE stands Fuzzy Fuzzbucket. Well Done!
  18. X2 Get a good pair of budget CDP+INT AMP+Speakers Anyway. I think there's something wrong with the echoloft site. Been down for at least a wewk already. Try this instead: http://www.hifihub.com.sg/forums/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=2
  19. Congrats on your purchase. May you have many hours of listening bliss ahead...
  20. Many might feel that the ZVM's a much better bargain. not only locally but abroad as well - recording functions/radio etc. It is also less picky with music formats (it plays WMA files) You can also use a line-out on the ZVM which can help improve the SQ (similar to the Ipod) but that would mean that you'd have to venture into the world of amps After all that, I've got an Ipod and I'm a happy man
