  1. Have you auditioned the headamp or DAC?
  2. Read review that the Stello HP100 amp goes well with 701. Is this available in Singapore?
  3. Likely to get a iPod soon, then going to start headphone hunting. Are the prices all the same everywhere? Any recommended dealers that's chaeper than Apple shop? I've ripped my CDs with Lossless format. However, now using a ATH-EM7 thru my T-42 notebook, but clipping sound at peaks even at moderate volume. Not sure if it's the notebook or the phone?
  4. I've actually owned a Stax (I think it was a Lambda) in the late 80s, didn't turn out well as I was using a CD source that was a touch hot in the treble - garbage in & garbage out - returned it within a week. Eventually settled on AKG 240DF for a year before I sold it. I'll go to Adephi to audition it and decide, but heard Stax is v expoensive in Sg
  5. Wow, you're certainly well exposed to electrostatics. I saw the 202 as highly rated in a UK hifi mag. However, have read reviews that the 303 is much better than 202 and also 404 is much better than 303. Knowing how things can get really hyped up in audio, what's your opinion on the difference?
  6. Mackie, Thanks for the feedback. Heard my friend's Magnaplanar electrostatic - pretty incredible with female vocal. That's why I was looking at Stax. Will buy my portable system now as simpler to decide & slowly source for a good home setup later. Guy that bought my system will be collecting tomorrow, listening to Wynton Marsalis's CD as I write this - will miss it, nothing except my notebook after that.
  7. Qualia 10, got the image from this forum. I even like the headphone rest. Just contacted Jojo and he forwarded this link on the Sony 90. http://www.avbuzz.com/new_home/w/hp-all-list/index.htm
  8. Thanks for the address. Just buy & drool over it.....amazing looking.

    pX200 and Ck7

Top Gun, Does the Cardas HP-1 mini-mini improve sound quality of the CK7 with iPod? Where is this promotion avialable? Thanks.
  10. Thanks for the feedbacks guys. i only saw the CK5 & below at Best Denki in thomas plaza. The Westone looks like hearing aid, so not use to the look. Where did you guys get the CK7? By the way, I have a ATH EM7 that I use for Skype & listening off notebook, how does the CK7 compare? Likely to get a iPod soon, just read that the 5G has quite good sound quality, will likely drive the phones direct as this will be my portable rig. By the way, is Jojo a shop or person?
  11. Not much coverage on AT & Sony inner ear speaker here, has anyone used these models? AT ATH-CK5, CK7 OR Sony MDR EX90SL The Sony looks slick http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/gadgets/son...hole-164658.php
  12. Thanks for enlightening me. Here's another cool one one that looks like retro Nakamichi gears - during their prime days of Nakamichi Dragon - their products were kick-ass then. Audio Valve RKV MkII. Not sure about sound quality though.

    AAC vs AIFF

Here's a link with reference to iPod format for hi-fi. http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/hipod/hipod_2.html
  14. I browsed upon the SR71's positive review awhile back, is Hornet comparable? The casing is nice but not too keen about the logo/text overload. See attached images for both. Barradio, noticed you have a Naim head amp, how's the quality?
  15. Top-Gun, I'm new to headphones, what's a IIRC? I love the Jeff Rowland face plate surface machining appearance best. I'm a industrial designer by profession, so a little extreme about the aesthetics of equipments I used. To me, the effect of owning ugly, tacky stuffs is like waking up to a ugly spouse every morning.
  16. Mackie, thanks for your advice and you're right, passion sometimes twisted my logic, I'm a sucker for cool looking gear. I'll certainly take your advice on the Stax 001. By the way, how does the Stax 2020 compare with your favorite Beyer or Senn? I'll check out the PA2V2 or Xenos, but the Larocco amp sure looks sexy.
  17. Thought of the iPod as quality source from this article: http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/hipod/hipod_2.html Heard that the Shuffle has better sound quality, but 1G maybe limited. Checked the setup some of the experts uses including Evian's, seems Shuffle & Westone UM2 is quite popular - wow, that's almost weightless! Never heard of Westone but reviews looked good. http://www.earphonesolutions.com/reofum2byour.html http://uncleplastic.blogspot.com/2005/05/r...estone-um2.html Also found this link on matching amps for the UM2 http://um2.blogspot.com/
  18. The SR-001 looks small in the photo but heard battery life limited. http://www.stax.co.jp/ENG/in-the-ear.html Interested about the SR71 amp and thought about matching to one of those better ear canal hp. As my other choices will be home setup with either Stax 3030 system or 701 with Stello amp, concerned the audio tradeoff may be too much in comparison.
  19. I'm in the midst of selling my home system and switching to headphone. As I'm starting from scratch, want to make sure I don't make any silly mistake and get stuck with wrong combo. I've not decided on portable or home setup, but for portable solution, thinking of the following: Source: iPod 60G using either uncompressed WAV or Lossless format Headphone: Stax SR-001MK2 In-The-Ear electrostatic/amp Has anyone tried this combo? I've some idea on home setup, but being new here, not sure if I should post it under Home Audio instead?
