If you want 'efficient' music on the go. I would recommend a mp3 player. If what you want is a good source and brings out your portable amp too, a portable cd player would be a better choice (audio cd though).

Is cord noise/microphonics that bad? I have no problems using my etys outdoors. Mine has the braided cable though. The knocking of the crossover against your shirt/body would produce noise ma... Hey, gald you like the amp too...

Maybe there is a defect on the fitting of your ex-71? Try twisting your ex-71 while inserting it into your ears. And also pull out your ears while inserting it. Its a 2-handed operation. I don't think the isolation could be so bad that you can hear you cpu fan spinning...
