  1. As above...I think the pads of my headphones are starting to smell a little? And is there a way to get rid of the dampness of my pads? THANKS A MILL FOR ANY HELP!
  2. I've tried rotel, nad and marantz and although I really like rotel's cd player I went for marantz instead. The marantz player seems to have this surround effect? The background music is more clearer or should I say distinct? Is that what people refer to when they use the term the marantz sound?
  3. Todays Straits Times cover story Oct 19, 2004 Home users face fines or jail for illegal downloads Law will be changed to make it a crime, with maximum $20,000 fine and 6 months' jail By Chua Hian Hou TOUGHER laws, including imposing a jail term, are to be introduced against home users who illegally download music, movies and computer programs from the Internet onto their computers. What they do will be viewed as a criminal offence under the proposed amendment to the Copyright Act, and those found guilty can be fined up to $20,000 and/or jailed up to six months. Currently, owners of the copyrighted materials have to sue such users in a civil suit and often, the fine imposed is not worth the cost of tracking and taking legal action against them. The new punishments will be introduced in Parliament today and are expected to come into effect by year-end The change was inevitable as it was required under the US-Singapore Free Trade Agreement, said Mr Lau Kok Keng, head of intellectual property, technology, entertainment and communications practice at law firm Rajah and Tann. 'With Internet piracy rates going up and the ease with which such distribution can be done by individuals over the Internet, there must be a deterrent to discourage such illegal activities,' he added. The latest Global Piracy Study by the Business Software Alliance, which tracks software piracy, shows fewer pirated copies of software like Windows XP and Microsoft Office, among others, being used here. It has slipped to 43 per cent from 48 per cent last year. However, the real situation may be worse. 'It is difficult to uncover such illegal activities,' said Mr Lau. The situation has been made worse by such file-sharing software as Kazaa and BitTorrent, which make downloading and distribution of movies, music and software much easier and faster. Mr Lau is confident the change 'will close the loopholes and hopefully curb the demand for pirated content.' However, he concedes its effectiveness, not unlike Singapore's pornography laws, will have to rely substantially on tip-offs and good forensic work. The tough Act to come does not seem to worry Mr B. Tan, a 28-year-old sales manager who downloads movies and music almost daily. 'I may cut down a bit but I don't think I would get caught. Everybody's doing it. They can't catch us all,' he said. Although the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore, or Ipos, had sought public feedback on the proposed changes earlier this year, the responses were not made public. Yesterday, Ipos and copyright owners such as the Record Industry Association (Singapore), the Motion Picture Association, the BSA, and the Entertainment Software Association declined to comment on the proposed amendment. One area that drew flak from intellectual property lawyers yesterday was the term 'commercial scale'. A crime is committed only when the downloads are of a 'commercial scale' but the term is not defined. Said Mr Cyril Chua of Alban Tay Mahtani & de Silva: 'The amendment is unsatisfactory as the term is vague and people would not know what constitutes commercial scale.' Another intellectual property lawyer, who declined to be named, went further. He said: 'If the Government wants to make end-user piracy a criminal offence, it should say where this line is drawn rather than cop out with some vague 'commercial scale' definition.' Mr Lau said that without clear out-of-bounds markers, 'you'll probably need to wait for the first pirate to be charged in court to see where the boundaries are.'
  4. Defective? how can that be?! NAWWWW! I already sent it for repair twice! and both times the technician said it was working all right, wasn't spoilt in the first place! Sorry, I can't help be sarcastsic, I'm so frustrated..haiz....
  5. Hey guys another update. The lastest repair was the replacement of the cd lens. Anyways I just discovered that the cd player will have this other random effect. After I press play and press skip to the desired track, it'll make some noises before resetting itself and going back to when the cd stopped. Then I'll have to repeat the whole process before I can finally play my song. This is perfect, I send my cd back two times to have it scratched and get it in worse condition and not have it repaired. B-E-A-UTIFUL. hahaha...can't wait for monday morning. By the way, thanks a mill for all the tips so far guys. Really appreciate it.
  6. The thing is, the problem is really random. It happened to me within a two mins of playing it today..or it could take as long as 3 hours. They should have repiared the problem, I don't have to wait there for hours and try it out.
  7. I can't leave it there since they said they've repaired it. They're asking me to bring it back to check and repair again for the 3 rd time in less than 1 1/2 months.
  8. Hey guys. I've an update on my situation. I'm soooo "OVERJOYED"! YAYS! I sent my cd player back for the second time and just got it back today. STILL HAS THE PROBLEM ON TOP OF HAVING SCRATCHES ON IT! Plus they're asking me to bring it back to repair agian. "CAN'T WAIT!!! " GAWD! I just love carrying it to the bus stop, carry it on the bus, carry it to the mrt, carry it to the bus stop, carry it on the bus and then carrying it to the repair centre. wooohooo, if that's not fun, what is?
  9. Yeah but the thing is, the problem occurs at random. Sometimes it'll happen within an hour, sometimes after an hour then it'll happen....they're supposed to have fixed it, I don't have the time to sit there and listen to music for two hours. Sigh...this is so frustrating, first time I got a branded cd player and I already get crap like this.
  10. Got it for less than a month. It was giving the same problems on the second day of purchase. (Like I explained before, I was too busy and had no one who could help me change it within the first week) I got it at kec. I didn't send it to the shop, I sent it to the distributer. Cause the shop told me to send it there.
  11. DAMN IT! AFTER SENDING FOR REPAIRS IT STILL HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. DON'T THEY DO THEIR JOBS? GAWD! It's still very new (my grandma got it for me less than a month ago) and already so much problems? Plus it''s quite a hassle for me to send my cd player there since i'm a student. I've to drag it on the bus, then the mrt, then the bus and then walk to the damn place. Plus I've to live without my music for days again. Is there any way I could still get a replacement?
  12. bump bump bump Guys do visit the channel yah? It's been dead for quite a while.
  13. any reviews for this product? looks really nice btw. how much does it cost? $700?
  14. Any idea how long the repair will take? My exams are coming soon, I need my dose of music to chill. Thanks.
  15. No it's just the time remaining that suddenly dissappears for that slight pause. plus even though the cd is free of any blemishes it will still have that pause within an hour of playing...i could still bring it down to the shop i bought it from to have it checked? Btw the slight pause was not me pressing pause or anything like that, it happened.
  16. I bought a brand new marantz cd 5400 a while back. Still within warranty period. Unfornately (or should I say fornately for me) I couldn't really tell the difference between this player and those slightly above it in terms of price. So I got the cd5400 and bought a couple of cds with the rest of the money instead. Anyways I hardly play it more than slightly over an hour. However during this time, there will be a slight pause and the the display (remaining time) would disappear during that slight pause. The pause lasts for about a second. What could be the problem? Could it be because of heat buildup? Or cause it's still very new? Should I bring it in for repairs? And how long would it take? Thanks. Other than the above stated problem, i've no idea problems.
  17. From the creative website itself. Surprised no one mentioned it, or is the promotion over? Quite tempting I must say.
