  1. Hi Av98m, How about posting your impressions on the Headsave Tempo, and some pics if possible? I'm quite curious and tempted! Thanks. Scriberex
  2. Hi Q00 and Tenson, Thanks for your replies. Doesn't matter. Just thought that was quite a novel birthday present. Oh well, save $! Cheers! Scriberex
  3. Hi Q00 and Tenson, Are these train/car players available in Singapore? Care to point me to a shop or website? Thanks. Scriberex
  4. Hi N@z, I got the blue one. Tough decision. Cheers! Scriberex
  5. Duh!!! Thanks Headphonecrazy, will try it out! Cheers! Scriberex
  6. Thanks Headphonecrazy. Um.. Sorry, me non-tech/engineer. You mean scv wall socket or power socket? ZAP!!! Is there an accessory I can buy from some audio or diy shop? I was wondering if clipping the usual Hifi cable antennae to the telescopic antennae would do the trick. Generally happy with the reception so not planning any surgery on my radio! Thanks. Scriberex
  7. After reading reviews on the web and thanks to Av98m's recommendation, I recently plonked down S$280 for a Blue Tivoli PAL at Unicorn at Adelphi (Yes, the shop name is correct.). (Thanks to Headphonecrazy's advice on prices in earlier post.) Had been wrestling with whether to go for the Model 1 or PAL, and finally decided that the portability factor made the extra S$80 or so worth it, despite the other pros of Model 1, i.e. nicer retro look, reportedly better reception and sound. No regrets. Love the PAL's fun retro colours and 5:1 ratio tuning knob. (Feels like you're in a safe-cracker movie every time you switch channels). Reception is great if you're not too enclosed. E.g. Unicorn's location in Adelphi generates too much static for most channels except some mandarin channel. My office/cubicle in town also generates static and needs the antannae to be fully extended and shifted around before getting acceptable signal. Great reception elsewhere. Local channels are crystal clear, even the Malaysian JB radio channels sound really clear. The mono speaker gives pretty rich and full sound. Good mix of bass and treble. No problem filling my study, bedroom or shower room. The input socket allows my ipod to use it as a portable speaker. Can't quite notice any distortion at higher volumes. I play mainly jazz on my ipod and it sounds great. The PAL apparently works as a portable stereo amp too, though I haven't quite listened to it enough through earphones to give a clear critique. Battery life is great! Can play for hours without any drop in sound quality. Haven't quite tested the battery from full to drained, though. Depends in volume, I'm advised by the shop. Cons? I was a bit surprised that the adapter comes with a rather short cord (Edit: 2 meters, just checked), adequate but it does limit your placement options without an extension wire. But then again, the battery life is pretty good, so it can last most of the day easily without charging. Price could be cheaper considering the online price of US$129 pricetag for the US version. But add the price of postage and a 220v adapter, probably works out about the same. Considering the GBP 129 pricetag for the 220v version, IMHO, don't seem too bad to buy locally either. Dunno about comparing with China factory kangtows, though! I'm wondering if there are any workarounds to attach the usual hi-fi radio antennae to the pull-up telescopic antannae, to give the PAL the extra reach. Any advice? Cheers! Scriberex
  8. Hi, wondering how much is a pair of Sony CD3000 if I got someone to pick it up in Tokyo, (cheaper than audiocubes?) and where would be a good place to pick them up in Tokyo (any specific shop to recommend)? Thanks. Scriberex
  9. Shure E2 - cheapest price quoted is S$171 (including GST) at Esden Trading, #01-01 Sim Lim Square (facing road). Tel: 63339745 But was told because distributor no stock, hence need to indent, pay deposit and wait 3 weeks. IMHO, cheaper and faster to order from US.
  10. Hi N@z, Mustafa only has the Peppermint flavoured Althoids. Plastic wrapped and March 05 expiry date! I bought one for the fun of it, also for a sorethroat. Thanks for the tip. Hi Jasonhanjk, great! Please PM me when you have time and we can discuss. Thanks!!! Cheers! Scriberex
  11. I was in Mustafa Shopping Centre and found the Althoids mints selling for S$2.50. They also sold 2 packs of Fishermen's Friend with a free small tin. Umm.. any local diyer willing to make a good value Meta Mint for me? (Good value meaning in comparision to headsave's meta mint, my only point of reference so far.) Thanks. Scriberex
  12. Hi Headphonecrazy, You're right. http://www.tdctrade.com/imn/03091803/consu...sumerele019.htm Well, if you happen to pass by any radio factories in Southern China, "tomp-pang" one Model 1 (Black), please! [Edit: Recently, I was in China and found the latest Nike backpack Epic 1 (Made in China) but was disappointed to find the China Nike shops selling for the same price as advertised in US. Guess the price control is quite strict. Dunno if Tivoli is as strict.) Did you ask Alpha Audio the price of Model 1? (Now I think they try to "kotok" me!) Cheers! Scriberex
  13. Did some search on the Tivoli website on the Model 1. Strange. the US 12v version costs $99.99, but International CE 220V version costs €179.00. Another UK website quotes £85.10 Excl VAT (Outside EU). That makes S$210 not too shabby. If we get a couple of orders, can try to knock off another $10 to $20 each, I guess. PM me if you decide to take the plunge. Dunno about the cdp.
  14. I just popped by the shop in Adelphi. It's not called Unicorn anymore at least not on the door. But same address #02-33. The Tivoli Model 1 costs about S$210, and the Tivoli PAL costs about S$320+ (forgot exactly). Really like the PAL for its portability and designer cool looks, but frankly its a bomb for its limited functions. Tivoli Model 1 looks more affordable. Except you need to plug it somewhere. Wonder if we consolidate our orders, we can bargain for a better deal? Anyone got kangtow?
  15. Hi Fishball, Thanks for the preview. Can't wait. Pardon my newbie ignorance. Some non-techie thoughts: - Most of the cheapo interconnect cables in Sim Lim Square have Oxygen Free Cable (OFC) stamped on their packaging. Does your cable have the same or better capabilities than OFC? - Ditto with regards to 24 K connectors for corrosion free functions. Is that good to have compared to those you intend to use? - Will you have options for L-shaped connectors? I plan to use the wire with Ipod and Supermini, and prolonged use of straight connector pressing downwards may damage the cable. Also, a short cable, say around 10 inches would be sufficient for me. For your production run, perhaps two options, a short (limited edition white! ) cable with L-shaped connectors, and perhaps a longer cable for those using with less portable set-ups? - In terms of asthetics for the cable protectors (outer skin), I like the look and feel of those transparent blue cables I see commonly used for firewire or USB cables, etc, or solid white ipod-like rubber tubing. But I also found some technical sales pitch about the merits of braided polyester cable sleeve (see http://cableorganizer.com/expandable-sleeving/), so maybe your option is better. Will arrange to meet Mackie next week, after I pick up my Shures E2, to try out your prototype, in comparison with the Sim Lim Square cheapo versions. ; - ) Cheers! Scriberex
  16. Thanks Fishball 79, Mackie and N@z for your help. At last, after getting lots of blank looks and shaking heads from the vendors in Sim Lim Square and Tower, this is by far the best option! Will pm Fishball and Mackie! Cheers! Scriberex
  17. Anyone has a Plastic One (or similar) Mini to Mini cable for sale, pl. pm me. Thanks.
  18. Thanks N@z and Fuwen for your replies. Your views confirm my guess that a Kimber mini to mini may not fit my needs. My options seem to be: a) Stick with cheap S$8 OFC mini to mini cable from Sim Lim; or Order from Headphone.com the Plastic One for US$19.95; or c) Order the Xin mini to mini (http://www.fixup.net/products/pktamp/ofc_interconnect_cable.htm for US$19.99) which looks not very different from the Sim Lim Squire S$8 version, except that the length is shorter and hence more convenient. Any one have experience with the Xin mini to mini? Also, if anyone has a reasonably priced Plastic One or Xin mini to mini, pl. pm me. Thanks.
  19. Hi, sorry for a question from a newbie. Just got a second hand supermini v3 off the classifieds in Head-fi. Then couldn't figure out where to get a decent short mini to mini cable. Most of the shops in Sim Lim seem to stock $5 to $8 mini to mini audio cables that are at least 1.8 meters long. I notice that headphone.com stocks short Kimber mini to mini cables for US$45, and the Plastics One mini to mini cables for US$19.95. Questions: a) How much of a diference will a Kimber or Plastics One mini to mini cable make in sound quality for my setup (supermini - ipod - PX100/MX500) compared to the el cheapo S$8 cable variety? Where can I buy Kimber or (perferably) Plastics One mini to mini cables in Singapore? Thanks. Scriberex
  20. Hi, I'm interested in picking up a budget 2nd or 3rd hand portable amp to pair my ipod and a decent pair of earphones (still scouting around for a good deal for Shure E2 or Etys ER4P). Specs: META42 mint-size Altoids or Hammond casing BUF 634U buffers OPA 2132UA Class A 1or 2 x9V battery DC jack for external power Thanks. Scriberex
