  1. I'll be posting my on going impressions and at a much later point in time my review of the Pioneer Elite DV-59AVi universal player at this url: http://www5.head-fi.org/forums/showthread....&threadid=61691
  2. CMK: Yeah, I know. I've told all of the Internet community that the Denon DVD 5900 would be mine but I can't afford to be a bad steward of God's riches anymore. I can't afford to bust my budget and fund my other top financial priorities including my competitive shooting career, paying off my Direct Student Loans debt slowly, and saving up for my MFA in English Creative Writing at a very good graduate school. This is just a hobby, an obsessive one at that, but it's not going to get ahead in my life so why pour in the money? Yes, the Denon DVD 5900 succeeded in becoming THE middle fi universal player (as was the intentions of Denon in designing this model) but I'll take a pass on it now. I can be content whether rich or poor with whatever audio gear God has blessed unto me. The Pioneer Elite DV59-AVi will make me happy and I am betting that it supports the DVD +R/RW & DVD -R/RW formats too (all of my research in AVS Forum indicates so).
  3. In my humble opinion, cables and power conditioners should not exceed ten percent of your total audio / video budget. It makes no sense to buy a $1200 USD IC if your source is less than that. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Furthermore, cables and power conditioners fall under the last ten percent tweak / refinement of what you've already assembled as your primary audio / video rig. Also, be wary of terminology designed to stupor you. If you can't look up the terminology on the Internet and get a layman's understanding of what it is exactly then move on. SACD & DVD-Audio tend to benefit from moderately expensive to high end ICs and power conditioners. In my experience, I've found that these new technologies really do benefit from select ICs and power conditioners because of the increased dynamic range, THD, frequency spectrum, etc. If you decide to invest in either or both hi-rez formats, then it is imperative that you have the right equipment to take advantage of their technical improvements. In other words, you got to make sure you have a 1st or 2nd tier headphone amplifier and ICs + power conditioner to boot. Otherwise, it's really not worthwhile at all and the best you'll be experiencing is a dabbling effect -- you'll listen for awhile and move on not having heard it at its' full potential. These are just my opinions after having owned a budget universal. I'm moving on to a solidly middle fi universal player next week -- Pioneer Elite DV59-AVi. I'll report back with my findings in a few weeks time here at SGHeadphones, if anyone cares.
  4. Cardas Neutral Reference. Perfectly balanced & neutral IC (IMHO)
  5. Sorry Rameish, I don't have my digital camera with me. It'll take a few more weeks before I get it back.
  6. Hey guys! I decided tell the whole headphone world about my latest discovery: http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showthread....&threadid=58246. Thanks for reading!
  7. What do SGHeadphone members prefer: neutrality / transparancy or warm / "musical" reproduction of sound? The reason why I ask is due to something I read that intrigued me: the so called audiophiles hailing from western countries tend to prefer strict neutrality / transparancy (i.e., Sennheiser) whereas those from eastern countries prefer a warm / musical reproduction of their music (i.e., Audio Technica). I do not place much stock in this flagrant generalization but it does stick out like a sore thumb in my memory. Let me start: I like both but I will truthfully admit that I have a hard time trying to afford / prefer a strictly neutral / transparant reproduction of my music. Yet, I am hard pressed to find yet another audiophile (who happens to reside in a major western country) that does not tout it as the end all zen of the true audiophile (whatever that means). What do you think?
  8. The question is not "how much money did you spend on your hp set up?" but "how much are you going to keep spending on your headphone rig?" Music: 320 CDs, HDCDs, SACD, DVD-Audio, DAD, DTS discs ~ $5000 USD Balanced Power Technologies BP.Jr II Ultra -> PS Audio xStream Plus PC -> Pioneer Elite DV59-AVi -> Cardas Neutral Reference ICs -> Ray Samuels Emmeline HR-2 (AD797 & AD8065) -> Etymotic ER-4P/S & Grado RS-1 (Joseph Grado Flat Pads) = $4745 USD.
  9. Thanks guys! How much does a souped up RA-1 clone run in USD?
  10. Hello all! I am wondering: has anyone actually tried to open up a real Grado RA-1 and do the above modifications to it and "seal" the thing closed?

  12. This is an interest check. I am selling the USA model of the Denon DVD 2900 "universal" player. I bought the unit from ecost.com about three and a half months ago and it is in perfect condition. I can provide to the best buyer the unit itself, the user's manual, the stock power cord, and the remote control. NOTE: it is the 110 - 120V (American) version. I am entertaining all offers. Buyer is responsible for 1. shipping insurance, 2. shipping costs, 3. 3% PayPal fees (if that is to be the method of payment). I have a sterling reputation within Head-Fi; do a search for my real name. I accept three forms of payment (in US Dollars only): 1. personal check drawn from a US bank, 2. Money Order, 3. PayPal (preferred). My timeline is sometime by the end of January 2004; earliest date would be sometime by January 20th, 2004 but let it be known that is the first day of my last semester of my undergraduate education. If you are interested, please contact me by PM within SG Headphones or Head-Fi or send me an e-mail message: Welly@Comcast.Net Thanks for your interest!
  13. I don't even know why I am starting this thread but I would like to take a gander at the consensus of opinions regarding Asians who have achieved international appeal -- crossover status -- in various industries: films, music, books, etc. Before this thread gets out of hand, I'm not trying to incite hatreful putrid about "__________ washed" Asians. I'd like your suggestions for Asian "rock" or "pop" English speaking singers. Heck, I might even go try to download them off of a P2P network and get sued for $150,000 USD per song by the RIAA!
  14. I'll believe it when I see it for myself here in the States.
  15. I am selling a pair of DiMarzio M-PATH ICs (1m) for $125 USD excluding shipping and handling fees. They are in mint condition with no wear whatsoever (i.e., lettering, plugs, sheath, etc) and fully burned in. I only accept three forms of payment: 1. Personal check drawn from a US bank, 2. Money Order, or 3. Cash. If you decide to purchase these great ICs from me, then please send me a PM or e-mail message to Welly@Comcast.Net. Please check my Buyer / Seller Feedback within Head-Fi. Thank you!
