    Virus Attack

Discovered that this virus comes in on the IRC port. Not detected by McAfee, and only quarantine by Norton. Its a vicious worm, modifies the registry, ixplorer and switches off the online scan, so you are then wide open to attack.
  4. I've noticed there are a couple of classical fans here. I've collected some pieces but want to expand the collection further and so would like to have some recommendations for nice classical pieces. Sometimes listening to 92.4 on the radio, you can pick up a piece of two. I would like this to be just "popular" classics to start with, then slowly expand it to more serious listening, but not too heavy stuff. I'll start out with what I've recently picked up : Mozart Piano Concerto #21 played by Vladimir Ashkenazy Decca Beethoven Piano Sonatas Waldstein, Appassionata played by Mari Kodama Paganini Violin Concerto #4 played by Salvatore Accardo

    Virus Attack

Hi Q00/Charismatic I've got a couple of further questions : 1) would deleting the files mean that I cannot run regedit after that? 2) do the firewalls slow down your surfing speed a lot? currently I'm on Singnet broadband, just don't want to lose too much in terms of access speeds. thanks for the responses
  6. Hi, especially to the IT experts out there. Recently I bought a new PC, got the latest stuff, no mails, just internet surfing. However, I've been virus attacked twice already. Using MacAfee virus protection, but apparently, the virus changes the system file - regedit. I got virus detected on regedlt.exe ixplores.exe Dunno which virus it is, and dunno how to prevent it. Does anyone know which virus protection is best for internet and/or how to prevent this sort of thing occuring again.
  7. Yup, its been quiet. Ok, update on the Stax. It will be in 2 Sats from now. Still 2 weeks, urgh.
  8. Yup, get TS to mod the 63, bring new life to redbook.
  9. Give a listen to the SR325 as well b4 deciding.
  10. Since the last one, which I found very interesting, there are new members and by the time we have one, probably some more new equipment to listen to.
  11. Rameish, you shd listen to the SR325 through this new amp by tropicalrips. Delicious.
  12. Here is the Positive Feedback review by Carlo of the Mastrobator fame Omega II Review
  13. The system 3030, 4040 and Omegas from what I've heard.
  14. Strange, I thought I posted a reply, but it seems that it wasn't captured. Rameish, J10 had a distinct bias towards single-ended triode amplification while he was writing for Stereophile, that's why he preferred the cary/senn combo. FYI, the Stax will be available in 2 weeks.
  15. For dynamics, look for the Grado cans, the SR325 comes to mind. They are low impedence and can be driven directly from the headphone jack, or a simple amp. For refinement and inner detail, but not very good dynamics, the Stax 2020 system is v good at $980 list from Kingsley. For a more laid back sound, there's the Beyer DT880 or the Senn HD600 and you can pick an amp to match. There are a couple for sale in the classifieds.
  16. All sold, mods pls lock this thead. Thanks.
  17. When you switch off the amp, give it time to discharge the caps before switching on again, or you might have a power serge. Keep the amp well ventilated. Don't worry about switching sources, just make sure you turn down the vol when you do so.
  18. Powerbuy? Looks like we already have 4-5 interested parties, huh HPC? +10% with the Omega you might get indeed. Still, at approx $6k its...cough, cough... a lot of mola. I haven't reached that level of ...yet If I do go for it, it would only be a moment of impulse, where the heart makes decisions rather than the brain. Read the Stereophile review. I don't think he "prefers" the Senn/Cary combo, rather that its presentation is "wet" with single ended triode type sound. This would favour female vocals with its euphonic presentation, but for the purist, this type of sound obscures detail. I don't know about you guys, but I'm more for detail/neutrality with a hint of tube sweetness. As this ultimately means that you can listen to a wider variety of music without too much colorations. The interesting thing about the review, is that it does compare the SS and Tube versions of the preamp and his conclusion was that they actually sounded pretty similar, just that the tube version had its characteristic warmth, but the SS version was also very musical. Having heard the basic 2020 solid state combo, I found it very musical and lots of subtle information in the decay. I think I could live with either.
  19. Guys I actually think the other way around. The electrostatic earspks are very neutral. Just a question of the type of material - how thin the membrane is. If you look at the prices of the Classic and Signature earspks, there's only a slight price increase. But if you compare the prices of the 313 vs the 414, there's a huge jump- like 2x, probably because of the tube circuitry and the balanced input. Right now based on memory and the Stax name alone, I'm willing to just go for the 4040 Sig system. Omega is a different story altogether. Unless it offers incredibly superior sound to the Sig, I'm still held back by my left brain. Last I heard when calling Desmond was a couple of weeks, but I won't put money on the ETA. You know how these things can drag on. I'm with you on supporting the local agent, if the price is right.
