silence is not exactly golden

pardon my ignorance, but when i'm not playing anything on my speakers (or cans, for that matter), i hear the 'ssssssssssss'. it's not that irritating, but i was just wondering if there's anyway to rectify this 'silence'. is it due to the quality of my cables, or what?

I get static when i turn up my computer speakers. Its the noise im getting from my soundcard jack. It could be your source thats causing it or the powersupply?

There is a stats 'signal to noise ratio'. Usually around 60dbSNR and the noise is very noticeable in a quiet room. Not exactly cause of all noise, but usually. Oh yes, higher is better.

Having not seen/heard your room, my guess is that your room's acoustic is too "dead". You could try to reduce the amount of dampening materials. Too dead a room will also ultimately affect dynamics if you listen to speakers.

Nope. Your room has too much absorption and too little reflection of sound.
