augustineRS 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2004 (edited) I'm wondering whats the difference between the 2? I can't find reviews of v1 v v2 online. Are they still available off the shelf since the v3 is in town? I'm looking at one in eBay now. X Cans on eBay Will I be overpaying?I've yet to received reply on shipping cost. It is the v1 and since they uses the same power rating as singapore(230V) I thought I might give it a shot. Complimentary to tee's DAC.(if i decided to/and get it) I just love the design! Is the PSU absolutely needed?other than sonically improving performance of the amp. Or am i better off spending the $ on other stuff. Pls advise Thanks a mill Edited February 3, 2004 by augustineRS
duckling 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2004 Why not get the V3? Personally, I find the V3 more appealing in looks. Heard that Alpha Audio selling @ $700+ but may be able to bargin to $600+. I think someone might be selling his, which is only a few mths old...check my thread on "Headphone Amp with Remote Control".

Rameish 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2004 What ever you do don't use an X-Cans with a Grado - ear bleed. V1 uses some op-amp in the circuit. I think V2 doesn't but both suffer from an inbalanced pot esp at low to moderate volumes with high senn headphones. V3 uses a much better pot the Amps Blue is better all round as well. lengcm 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2004 The PSU is essentially a torridal transformer. You can follow the instruction here and DIY one yourself. Check out this webpage http://www.rock-grotto.co.uk/easyxpsu.htm However I have exchanged e-mail with pinkfloyd, owner of the above webpage, he has informed me the PSU has only marginal improvement. augustineRS 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2004 I really don't want to get into the v3. I read bout the Alps Blue in V3. But guys what will be a reasonable price to pay for an used. Currently the offer is X Can V1 - GBP$90 = S$280-ish(Strong Pounds, shipping(included) is at GBP$19.99) X Can V2 waiting for shipping cost before commit. Mackie 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2004 (edited) Mind U, there's actually a crowd following of MF X-series owing to their cylindrical chassis. Google search turns out the following links: http://www.audioreview.com/Headphone,Ampli...751_770crx.aspx http://www.vxm.com/Tone.XCan.html http://www.audioenz.co.nz/2001/0101.html http://www.nickdangerous.com/misc/xcans/ http://reviews.iwon.com/pscAudioReview/PLS_2751_913crx.aspx http://www.rock-grotto.co.uk/xreviews.htm Btw, X-PSU is a fantastic upgrade for all X components beside X-cans eg. X-24K DAC. Sound quality improves by a few rungs and left nothing to imagination. I remembered having sold my X-can V1 for S$250 thereabout. In any case, set aside some money for tube rolls ie. replace the stock Philips Jan 6922 tubes with Mullard CV2496 or E88CC equivalent. A cheaper alternative is JJ E88CC but I strongly recommend the Mullard tubes. These will totally transform the stock sound quality of X-cans (read drastically).
