tee 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2003 Has anyone tried the Ancient City (pacific moon label) ? It's a piano collection, very well crafted on melodic cum pentatonic (Japanese) scale by 5 living Japanese composers-pianists who visualised and sketched the images of the thousand year old capital Kyoto. I am looking for a secondhand piece to send to an old friend in Beijing, since i could not travel there now and she has been longing for some really good minimalist piano music in Asian style. (NB : Ancient City has been out of stock for a long time.....hence only used one can help.......no "reprints" too)
tee 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2003 Another famous CD is Ecophony Rinne (Victor Musical Industries VDR-1200) from Japan. This is a disc that tests your headphone's ability to project the ambience and 3D effects. The recording is very interesting, with voices moving around you , coupled with percussion playing full range of dynamics, from very low bass to fairly high pitch from synthesizers, generating a total unique soundfield that i felt somehow i was also moving together with the voices and floating...... Northern Oak 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2003 Interesting, so where can I find these CDs?
tee 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2003 This is quite an old print dating back to 1986 but you couldn't believe that its recording is as good as current state of the art. You could try HMV or Gramophone (Specialists' Centre or Capitol). I was trying to paste its picture but couldn't find one from the web. It is from Victor Musical Industries label, with Japanese wordings on the casing, both front and back, and pictures of a Monster looking at a young dancer dressed in thai traditional costume. Title "Ecophony Rinne" (i think it has the meaning of ouroboros) in small print can be found at right hand upper corner.
