Closed Cans.

Recommended Posts

hi guys.

Gonna get a new close cans for my ipod.

narrowed down to 2 models

1)AKG k81 DJ as recommended by evian

and

2) ATH ES-7.

Been reading reviews on Head-fi and users have very good things to say about the headphones.

I know I should go down to Stereo to do my own auditioning but i cant. For reasons that I wont elaborate.

Lets just say its inconvinent for me to move around with clutches.

AKG will set me back around 120 and the ES7 will set me back 190.

QNS IS. will the extra 70 bucks to spend on the ES7 be worth it?

I've got some input from Aron as well.

Just wanted to see if anyone had any advice for me.

Use to use a FC7 for portable and have a SR60 for home use.

Never had any AKG phones before. (but the long cord length for the K81DJ is  )

i listen to rock, metal and the like.

want to hear bass guitar clearly :cans:

any points or suggestions given are extremely welcomed!

Since you're using it for portable usage, you might wanna consider IEMs.

Back to headphones, I've seen great reviews on the AT A500. Can't really comment on the sound quality but it should be decent. The nice thing about the A500 is that it's very comfortable, if that's an issue for you.

You don't want to be seen outside wearing an ATH-Ax00 though... Those things are enormous o_O

AKG k81 is bassy!! Remove the foam inset and run it in with treble EQed music and it opens up after 250hrs. I felt it damn BASSY when I first tried it. Didn't like it for home use but outdoors, it's great cos the bass really drowns out noisy traffic! The soundstaging is there and infact one of the best of closed cans. at $129, it's quite a steal! Watching some action flick with this baby is great too!! Never knew headphones could sound like subs!

Overall the bass is good, but a little too much for some music. It's propably a better soundstaged version of BOSE's triport. & more value for money.

I'd say go for IEM if you're using it for portable usage.

Headphones for more bang-for-buck.
