Elac 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 Hi, does anyone know whether it's cheaper to buy Stax in Japan? If yes, can you share the right place to go in Japan to get Stax? Does Kingsley have Omega II? Feel like auditioning SR-007 after reading so many positive feedbacks on Orpheus Thanks

Elac 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 they r not in the same range as the orpheus. so its incomparable. You meant price range? Yes, definetely they are way apart. But since now we have the chance to experience Orpheus, it would be nice if we can compare it to electrostatic specialist like Stax

razer 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 up to u but dont let ur experience of orpheus turns u off from other headphones/earspeakers. I've gone through quite a few headphone experiences and sad to say, I wasn't blown by the GS-1000's or L3000's or the K1000's and Stax 4040 system at kingsley. I've yet to hear the HE90's or the Omega 2's but I've got to say, many times, headphone experiences are either overly exaggerated or is it just me? I don't find that the L3000 blows the ES7 away nor do the GS-1000's sound so much better than the HD650's...So what I'am trying to say is that, i wouldn't be suprised to hear that people might even prefer the omega 2 over the HE90 or maybe GS-1000's over the HE90s....But still, I'll love to hear the HE90's and see what all that hype is about... evil-zen 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 I don't know where in Japan can you get a Stax. I did ask my friend to get one for me but she didn't manage to find a shop selling one. But I do know where to get them online. I hope you know that they need special amps as well. Pricejapan.com is cheap but not too sure about the warranty issues. http://www.eifl.co.jp/ is slightly more expensive but more trustable. Sometimes ebay has them shipped from Japan as well. Have no knowledge of them. Kingsley does carry the Omega II but they do not have it in stock. You've got to ask them to bring it in. If you manage to do so, let me know too as I am curious about the Omega II as well. BTW I wasn't exactly blown away by the Orpheus as well. It just gets much closer to perfection than the other Staxes I tried. However, it will probably blow most people's mind away.
Elac 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 Thanks Evil-Zen, Yes, pricejapan is quite cheap, cheaper than Audiocubes.com. I emailed them already, asked for the price and voltage issue. Will let you know if I get more info
Elac 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 Found a review at Head-fi, HE 90 vs. SR-007 http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=75749
evil-zen 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 Well I'm sure Pricejapan can only provide you the japan voltage one. Same with audiocubes. But I think EIFL can send a 230V one.

Razer Just wanted to check if you had upgraded your source since the last time you were looking for a better one? IMO with the kinds of headphones you are using, it is hard to believe that not a single one "blew you away". Not trying to start a fight or anything, just that with your kind of budget, if not a single headphone is good enough, then you are probably looking for something other than headphones (speakers?) or there must be something wrong with the source equipment (most likely). Maybe initailly it was like yeah, this sounded great...but after a while, nothing was really surprising...I was simply using different cans on different days to get a different taste...I guess I'am a little bored as of now...Need to back out a little and then reaccess my stuff again. My friend took a 6 month break off all that headphone stuff by keeping them in his closet. He listened to them a few days ago and was in for a new experience...That was what i was trying to say...I think I'am kinda used to the sound and no longer find them mind blowing or sounding special...However, the reverse ain't particularly true...Tried those normal earbuds and yeah, they do sound like crap but back to headphones, I don't find them anything special... And no, its definitly not anything wrong with my source at the moment...I guess its me being less critical or demanding these days when i listen to music....what I do to chill out recently is to pop on any pair of cans that I find and play the music that I like. Seems that I'am getting a little tired of enjoying sound quality...Cause i felt that i neglected what good music really is...So its CD collecting time for me now and a little backing off from headphones... pchong 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 Stax is easily found in Japan. BIC Camera, Yobadoshi, and many of the large stores in Akhhabara. I had one of my colleagues buy a SR-001 for me from BIC - convenience rather than price, and its about half of what Kingsley wants for one. The site to look for places, if you can read Japanese, or find someone who can is www.kakaku.com. Here is the link for the O2: http://kakaku.com/item/20467010452/ I think from what I read, two best amps for the O2 would be the KGBH or the SinglePower ES-1. Elac 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 Got reply from EIFL and Audiocubes, both supply the driver only in 100V . Will try to check with BIC and Yodobashi, but I don't like their points system. I prefer to get immediate cash rebate
evil-zen 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 Oh I think the changing of voltage is much more difficult compared to the older ones. Newer ones have the same amp section but prettier looks and a harder to mod PS.
