Mackie 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2003 (edited) Cool. What is 'the plug' for? The "plug" is initially designed for Marantz cdps in accordance to its circuit topology and meant to be inserted to digital outputs. Its function is to reject RFI that often lurks when the digital output is left unloaded and exposed. I've since tried this plug on other makes of cdps namely MF A3CD, Electrocompaniet EMC1 and NAD 541i with success. I've also applied the plugs on all unused digital input/ouput of MFX-24K dac. Through my experiments, the improvement wrought from this plug is more prominent on higher-end cdps. U'll hear better imaging expecially vocals which appear closer and more involving (body). Instruments in the background are more defined and this is a result of the lowered noise floor. Shimmerings of tophats, cymbals and the likes sound more real and carry less white noise. Im my opinion, the first sonic improvement that will hit U is focus. The entire sound seems more coherent. I love this tweak the most out of everything I've tried on sources as it gives fantastic value for the buck albeit coin tweaks are very much cheaper. The plug is essentially "plug-n-play" with no worries, matey. Edited July 27, 2003 by Mackie
Mackie 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2003 wow the marantz sure looks good on the inside, esp the power supply. BTW what is the other pair of RCA jacks besides the analogue out? The other pair of rca plugs are digital output and a remote link with all other marantz ancillaries. The latter offers the convenience of controlling an all-Marantz setup with one remote. jtfoo 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2003 (edited) Yep, that's the opamp and a very cheapo one, but surprisingly used in some expensive headamps. A good candidate for upgrade. Resistors are also 5% carbon type.. Edited July 28, 2003 by jtfoo

jtfoo 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2003 hmmm.. doesnt sound cheapo to me As long as it sound good, then it's ok. Coz even in the expensive headamp that uses it, it sounded good to many ears. http://www.dself.dsl.pipex.com/ampins/webbop/4556.htm
