  1. HP power supply at basement SLT. Corner shop, near to the back exit. Name, don't know. My Epson power supply is from Koba. 3rd floor peoples park. The one with lots of tour agency. Just a reminder, you have change the head from this one as it a non-standard type. Anyway Koba stocks alot of notebook supply with various DC voltage. I think the 18V, 19V and 24 V are all suitable for opamp base headamps. Btw, pls check the adapter head if you guys getting any Notebook power supply. Anyway changing of the adapter head is easy job if you guys already know how to diy interconnect.
  2. I'm using Epson Notebook 24V,800ma supply from my apheared47. I replaced the head with a generic one, as the one with Epson is not a standard piece. It even comes with ferrite clamp... It still has a slight hum problem when the PCD is off. But once the PCD is on, there's no hum... SLT has one HP notebook 19V, more than 1 Amp. Solid construction, but the cost at $49 is way to ex.. My epson only $28.
  3. Talking about wallwart (I assume it's those AC->DC converter), what brand are you guys using?
  4. Is your KGCA still around? Maybe can wire it to 230V if your is the dual primary type transformer.
  5. One thing I think most dangerous with diy headphone amp is doing a tube headamp. The tube uses very high voltage as high as 400V. This can be life threatening if that high voltage line accidentally touches the leads of the headphone while your head is in between them. Really electricfying. You built yourself a module for the electric chair instead.

    Crossfeed

For me, I felt that it has some kind of cushion effect. Soften the harsh sound. Maybe it's because the signal got attenuated a few dB flowing thru the crossfeed. Past 2 days I,ve been listening without crossfeed more often. Too bad can't change my vote.

    Crossfeed

I've the Cmoy modified Linkwitz crossfeed. My experience is the same as Ablaze, where staging are being push towards the centre. But some recordings the differences are subtle. My crossfeed reduce the dB a little, so I need to crank up the volume a little. It's also more laid back, that the Grado does not sound as harsh as before.
  8. Hi Northern Oak, The Dual version of OPA134 is the OPA2134. Which means the OPA2134 has the exact same spec as the OPA134 and most would say the same sound. And the bonus is the OPA2134 has dual channel that would save yourself space as you would need only one chip as oppose to two. The OPA2134s are available from RS component or Farnell BTW my cmoy uses the OPA2134..
  9. Yep, Ender is me. I don't know whether mine is the Hi-Temp Alloy. But the printed on it is AG2%, so can relax and know it's there. The shop is definitely in SLT, one of the upper floor,1st or 2nd floor. But they don't display it so got to ask. Btw I made a mistake, it's actually only 200gm.. But still it's alot, I haven't finish my roll yet and I do alot of soldering including other amps and cables..
  10. Being using only the 500gm of Asashi ever since I started DIY. Well it's easy to work with, i.e. melt easily and flows very well. Also give peace of mind, coz your mind would think,"wah got silver leh" I use the Kester at work, no silver though. Also very easy to work with and flows well.. But I don't know about the sound. Coz never bother to A/B them at all. Imagine, to A/B, either I have to make 2 pcs of the project or I have to desolder and solder on the new solder.. Quite impossible.. But so far I'm quite happy with using the Asahi.
  11. Thanks for the assurance.
  12. For cheap and good, look for Kester 63/37, which is avilable in alot of shops in SLT. There's also a cheap 2% silver solder by Ashasi. Only $16.90 for a 500gm roll. But can't remember which shop in SLT has it.
  13. CHA47 should be base on the Apheared47 design. But since the CHA47 is done by JMT, I believe the component used are quality stuff.
  14. I took the leap of faith and ordered the DT880 from Jan. Didn't even audition it, base purely on head-fi review. Didn't I just made the the same mistake of buying a used GradoSR125 and it didn't suit me? : Some guys never learn...
  15. I've started DIY electronic from scratch which is only more than a month ago. That's why my portfolio only includes two very simple headamps, the cmoy and apheared47. I probably be doing more opamp base headamps to build up my confidence and knowledge and if the interest still there, then can take alook at transistor base head amps.. Now don't even dare to take a look at Nelson's design. Hopefully one day can build this one, though not by Nelson Pass but concept is there. What headamp you're using? Must one of those solid ones..
  16. Your JMT Meta42 is really quality stuff. I see Elna Cerafine?? and Neutrik Socket. Somemore the the enclosure very professionally done.. My Meta42 most likely going to be in those household groceries boxes again.. I have left over metal tin Mooncake boxes which I intend to use.
  17. Thanks guys. Actually it's isn't that hard to pick up and once started, very addictive. Singapore has lots of places to look for component. But have to do alittle running around between SLT, SLS, People's Park, Farnell, RS and Cold Storage for the exotic enclosures.
  18. It's me, Ender over at xtremeplace. I'm also kenna bitten by the headamp/phone thing about a month ago.. Now into building headamps. Just need a good headphone to go along and test the headamps.
  19. Just completed this last nite. Still have to do some major surgery to relocate the batteries holder which was badly placed. This cause diffculty in replacing the battaries. The amp is built into a small tea chest. Very amateur, but workable. It drives the Grado125 very much better than the cmoy. http://www.pbase.com/jtfoo/apheared47
  20. Thanks, I'd jsut shot an email to Jan. Let see what's his reply.
  21. Thanks, I'll write to meier and see if any discount from the listed price..
  22. After reading some reviews from head-fi, I'm pretty interested in them Dt880 too. But saw Hung Bros listed them at $498. Are Hung Bros friendly to bargains? I never bought anything from them yet, so wouldn't know. Saw at Meier than it's onlt USD$235, inclusive of shipping, which works out to be around $411. BTW whereabout can I hear the AKG? I have the K501 in mind too.
