    Naim Mods

Glad you like the mods.. Let me know if you feel that anything else within the amp can be improved that I did not. The TKD is indeed a very nice pot. I'd consider it for a portable amp over the blue velvet. It's tracking is touted to be better than the blue.
  2. Some damping to reduce microphonics.
  3. Supposedly about US$2000 for the Omega II headphones & US$4000++ for the SRM-717 amplifier to go with it. You can also get a builder to build you a KGSS for the Omega II's.
  4. Actually, it's not a CDP. LOL. It's a CLD player.
  5. IIRC, yes. There should be....
  6. Hehe... Those pictures are the NAD. Well.. It's actually glass lens... Managed a better look at the player.. hehehe...
  7. One more important factor. You haven't added TLE2426's for each of the left & right channels. It's a must! You must also place a 10pF cap across C6G & jumper across R3G!
  8. The 2N5486's sink out about 10mA of current or so.the 4 jfets there sink out 20mA to 40mA at best per rail. Your 3 opamps, rail-splitters & capacitors will need more current than that to operate properly. =)
  9. Funny... My previous post didn't make it through. Must be some forum glitch. I've found your problem. You failed to populate pads Q3L & Q3R which are essential for the left & right channel opamps to receive power. !!!
  10. Actually, by DAC, I meant the actual DAC chip. It's more likely than not, buffered with JFETs and / or opamps on the output. =)

    CD PLAYER

lol.... newer isn't necessary better. My decade old player (it isn't even a dedicated CDP) is better than my modded NAD... damn it.. Gotta spend $$ modding my player now.. hehe.
  12. Oh... Okay. Happened to chance upon the XRCD version today at Parkway Sembawang Music. About $39 or $49. Can't remember which one.
  13. Well... I believe that even a transformer changes the sound. The wires + core used and winding definitely "distort" the original sound from the line-out. DAC's that can directly drive headphones are more often than not, powered with a higher than specified voltage to output an even higher output voltage. Most of them are not capable of a 2v. RMS output.
  14. But from the picture, those traces on the PCB don't even look like copper. I think it's tin(horror). . Or maybe silver?? Solder over copper. So it's probably a mix of tin & lead..
  15. Some random pictures of a recent mod.. Hehehe.. Image quality is pretty poor. I need a digicam soon *hint* *hint* Anybody besides Rameish wanna guess what that is?
  16. If you could, please do. I've to start 6-day camp weeks from now onwards and won't be around every night to maintain a thread.
  17. It's a one colour job. The logo can be as big as the bottle is except the neck & base. The mould is made for the entire bottle even if the logo is smaller than 1cm square. There isn't a limitation on the logo size as such... Besides the bottle size, that is.. Note that you guys can choose any colour for the bottle as long as it's the same size and series.
  18. No, you can't directly couple AC into the PPA board. However, you can integrate an AC to DC regulated power supply in the same enclosure as the PPA board for an AC powered amp. =)
  19. Acronym for: PPL's Portable Amplifier PPL is the guy who designed the amp.
