  1. You know cable modem speeds are determined by the number of pple sharing the same bandwidth for a certain area right? If I am not mistaken, it's something like one 10 MBPS bandwidth for 10 units or thereabouts. So if there are only 2 person using it, you will be able to use up to your 1.5MBPS or 3MBPS since 10MBPS shared by 2 is 5MBPS. But if 10 pple are sharing it, each one limited to only 1 MBPS, regardless of whether you are on 1.5 or 3.

Thanks guys for all your suggestions, I really appreciate this and I have learned heaps since joining this forum just barely a month ago. One of the cooler and friendly forums around!

    DT431

Heh heh...sounds like the PX200 I am listening to right now as I type out this mesasge. I think the DT431s are the opposite extreme (bright topend, thin on the lows and relatively transparent) of the PX200. Of course, they are in different leagues altogether.
  4. Haha, how true! I got into this 'mess' just because someone let me audition his system AND headphones at the same time. Hifi/music/sound (whatever ya might call it) is something where there is no turning back. I mean, after you hear all the details, ask you to go back to your micro, you know that there is something missing already. You won't look back.
  5. I am ashamed, but I didn't know that my PCDP has a lineout until about an hour ago. TropicalRips was trying out his CMOY when he plugged into the lineout, which was labelled optical out but ALSO serves as a lineout. So, I have been plugging my CDP through headphone out for the longest time. Shame. I am going to try line out from the pcdp when I get home today. Do you think that lineout Voltage is higher than phoneout voltage at max volume? I am sure there will be less distortion, even if it's the same.
  6. Hi, yep, I have a Pioneer with the legato link. It just irks me to have the available option of those bass boost things, that's all. I am looking to amplify the signal from the pcdp. So, a line level output which is really clean would be nice. Mackie, question if you can help me. Does the lineout on PCDP (probably generalising) output at line level outputs even come close to full size CDPs? I bet it ranges from anything like 2V to 5V for different decks but what about the PCDP's lineout?
  7. no no, sorry there. I didn't intend to heat things up, just for discussion. Cool? Anyway, yes, I am one of those who spend money irrationally when it comes to hobbies. I am 100% guilty when it comes to these things. Anyway, back on track, do audiophones listen out for the music itself or what the equipment does to the music? If it's like trying to find out what cable A does to the music, it's little wonder why ladies in general do not appreciate this.
  8. Hi Papaya, have you given it enough time? I didn't quite like it initially but after a little more time to burn it, it doesn't actually sound too bad.
  9. That's the LIFESTYLE shop right? Oh my god! $69? He was just trying to sell it to me at $99 2 weeks ago! He has the HP1000 as well.
  10. Any particular model you are referring to? It's simple and without thosse funny sound equaliser settings?
  11. By the way, I think generally, the newer diesels are faster and more fuel efficient. Not to mention that the diesel is cheaper in SG in the first place. But we an slowly wait a long long time for non-commercial diesel cars in singapore. Pollution wise, wun happen. And the tax on diesel is too low.
  12. I spotted a zonda on the road 2 days ago. *faint*
  13. So it boils down to money? For purpose of discussion, I dun think so. Let's say you are REALLY rich. Would you spend one 1K on a bag? I mean. Ok, everything is relative. If you spend $5k on a stereo, what's the max you would spend on a wallet/briefcase? $300? $500? If you spend $50k on a stereo, would you spend $5k on a bag? Yes right? So, we should talk in relative terms. Then again, maybe not, $5k on a bag? Siao.
  14. Then why in Zion do they still talk so much?
  15. Haha! I am trying to get my wife to enjoy the music. She can pick out some naunces in some music passages which I can hardly believe her when she said she could, in a blind test. But she's still not into it. I bought her a pair of EX71s and she feels that it is uncomfortableand she'll make do with the music from the creative earphones. Yikes! I think they have better hearing, but that doesn't mean they will want to make use of the better hearing.
  16. I am using Maxonline 1500 too. And in the office, using ST BIZ broadband. I do not have that problem. Are you guys using it through some firewall, or your router is logging things? Usually, if the firewall or router logs web access, things can slow down when you are going to a site for the first time. First time as in first time in a couple of hours or something like that.
  17. I am using the 805 in the office now. It's just that I get damn irritated by the bass boost and GROOVE function. And so I am looking at units without those tech wizardry.
  18. Wow. Good price. Nice. Copy Protected CDs can be ripped using a longer process. There is a software called blindwrite by VSO. It basically makes a copy of the copy protect CD, which will not be protected and you can then rip from the copy. I am not advocating piracy. I stress that this should be done only if you have the original CD and are using it for your own purpose ONLY. Anyway, CDs always provide better quality, by nature of the fact that the machines playing them are audiophile quality rather than most mp3 players anyway.
  19. It's probably my miserably small social circle but why is it that all the audiophiles I have come across so far all males? Except for Carina Lau in Internal Affairs II (Wu Jian Dao), playing the Chai Chin song.... wah lao.... my kind of woman man....at least she'll understand the part about $1500 CD players.
  20. Yah man, looks costs money lar. I just suggested based on the fact that it's half the price. Anyway, I don't listen out to big sound and bass. I am more interested in the neutrality of sound. To the extend that my friends comment that I like my music flat. But that's not true, I like my music tonally correct. How else can you be sure that the music is how the musician wanted it to be? Big bass might not be what was intended. I agree with you on that stand. Actually, may I again suggest a song from Kit Chan,Zi Yao Gong Ni Huo Yi Tian in Snow Wolf Lake for you to listen to the neutrality and tonal accuracy of the system. At the 1.5 min mark, when she stretches her voice in the last word, like tinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn....... then you can quite easily mark the system's tonal capability apart. If it sounds like an instrument making that sound, it's not right. On very balanced system, you can actually tell that it's human voice. Again, just my thoughts and little experiences, sharing. Cheers and have fun!
  21. Oh, surprised that you replied so quick. Oh, NJB3, that's nice. But you do not need it to play CDs? The NJB doesn't play CDs, does it? How much did you pay for it?
  22. Hi all, I have a very old PCDP (Sony D-E805) which I am looking to replace. It's quite slim and batteries run for like 30 hours (no sh*t, 2 AAs, without ESP). But nevermind the battery life. I want a PCDP which has no extra features, except good sound. I don't want Groove, XBS, SoundExpander, BombDABass system, Legato Link, wat-ever-bass-sh*te you might call it in the player. Can anyone help me recommend a simple no frills player for less than $300? I know I can turn off those things but I get the impression that the 'off' position has been detuned by the manufacturer to showcase how good their 'sound-enhancer' works. So, I basically just want a PCDP without those. I want to bring it to office for CDs only.
  23. Liquid FX, have you bought your PCDP already? If you want battery life, check out the Panasonic SL-CT810. And it really looks quite good as well. My brother has that and apparently, he charged it like only twice in the 3 months he has it. Well, obviously, he ain't using it heavily. Anyway, battery life depends on the earphones you are using also. If you need to drive them hard, it'll suck up more batteries. Anyway, the Panasonic SL-CT810 has an external battery pack as well.
  24. Hi bpribadi, nice of you to post the review here. Are you looking to buy a micro system? If you are going for looks, this system doesn't look too bad at all. Honestly, it's something I want to have, though I would rather leave the grill on. May I suggest another alternative : Panasonic It doesn't look so cool. In fact, it looks gadgetry. Like out of some lousy japanese design books, with large LED displays and all. Not that pretty. But take a listen to the sound. It's pretty decent. 1400W PMPO music! Hahaha... ok ok, I know how it iritates the hell out of audioheads like us to hear the PMPO ratings. Anyway, seriously, it's bi-amped at 70W per channel, and bi-wired speakers. Though the wiring looks dubious. Haha. I bought it for my wifey for her to listen to her music (it plays VCD,mp3,wma as well) and has a five disc changer. And I myself got impressed by the sound a $350 integrated machine makes these day! See the Panasonic SC-PM148 here.
  25. There are some things/happiness that money can't buy. But if there is, it's worth the money.
