  1. I bought my PX200 from Hung, it's like $95 asking price man.. bargained down to $90. Did you get the $85 quote straight off? Or after haggling?
  2. Hi CK, how often is this happening? Everytime?
  3. gulp. I am new to the business but may I dare try to provide another perspective. When you said wrong tubes, did you mean wrong specifications? Do tubes have polarity?
  4. Alright! Congrats on your purchase. Hope you enjoy it
  5. I am just not that sure about the economical viability behind making such. I am definitely happy if they can come up with a SACD PCDP, I mean, who wouldn't? But the market would be too small. How can the small little PCDP be good enough to drive anything or feed into any amps or cans? The pple who can afford the accompanying equipment wouldn't buy it cos it has no presence, compared to a CD17SE from marantz, for example. The only market would be "us". It's akin to asking how come they do not manufacture 18" tyres in grade C compound.
  6. Ok, that's great to hear! Muddy till fully burned in. That's exactly what I need to know. Thanks dude! I guess I am just too impatient for this burning in game.
  7. oh yes, I agree that they are pretty cool phones, else I wouldn't have bought them. There was an immediate choice of the DT231 and PX200, I choose the PX200 for portability. The DT231s were more musical. PX200 are easily to drive, works well with my MUVO2 so no complaims. I haven't quite burned in the PX200 yet. Not much time. Probably in the region of 20 hours thereabouts lar. Placement, yep, I have heard that one before. But can I ask you, if you place it correctly/incorrectly, does it affect the bass, midrange or treble? I just have a problem with the boomy bass and flat midrange. Otherwise, I think it's good cans for good money.
  8. Oh, by the way, I was trying to set the optimal frequency band for the tunecast to work and I realised that Singapore's airwaves are REALLY crowded! There's probably a station every 0.4 MHz! By virture of that fact, you shouldn't be considering tunecast 1 as that only has limited 4 frequency settings pre-determined in factory, 88.something to 89.something I think. Not sure. But there's alredy 88.3, 88.9 crowding our airwaves already.
  9. I just got the tunecast (grey) with cigarette lighter adaptor. It's S$68. Bought from PA at the PC show today. Sound is ok, you really shouldn't expect too much from them. It's FM. And I realise I've got to push up the volume quite a bit as it's a little on the soft side.
  10. I think the er6s are probably easy to drive. What's your super mini amp? which one is that? I am looking out for another one that is capable of driving the DT431s, super low efficiency. something like 86 dB spl only.
  11. Hi Ken, thanks for the info. I think now stuck with just the senn mx4/500. Probably go down and listen. Anyway, anyone can compare mx with the px soundwise? I personally find the px200's sound a bit muffled.
  12. Hmmm, $38 is a good price to pay for them. Is it the stick into the earcanal type? I want to get a decent pair of earphones for travelling use. EX71 sound would do for me, but I really hate the stick into the ear type.
  13. J4F, you cannot expect much sound quality from these. You know those satellites around singapore broadcasting your FM signals? If even those can't give you cd quality sound, I doubt something in the form factor of a candy bar (half eaten) can. Anyway, the $78 one is the multi frequency one? Or the fixed one without display? Even the multi-frequency one got one version (grey) with a car cigarette lighter charger, so no need batteries. That's the one you want.
  14. Yes, I got him to do the testing for me. I hav been there 3 times over the past week. Twice was to buy lar. So he has been quite ok to me. The problem is, I cranked it up quite loud and it was ok there. I went home and tested out on my integrated amp and it was ok too. So now, I have been able to deduce that it's the amp too weak to pump up the original source, which was weak in the first place. Also, if I pump the volume up too high, it's fair that it will crackle as well. I believe none of us have maxed out the volume pot on our stereo have we? Oh dear, the dt231 still with them?! how long liao?
  15. Actually, I find Hung's prices very elastic and inconsistent. But then again, it's another thread for another time. It's sponge based right? How about heated element? Just a thought.
  16. In all honesty, I believe that wood makes a good enclosure due to it's inherent ability to dampen sound and thus not colour the sound unintentionally. That's why most speakers are made from wood enclosure eh? And to use wood as a driver kinda defeats the purpose of the nature of wood. Unless, of course, the engineers intentionally wants to tame the sound and make it wolly.
  17. Did a bit more testing. Errr... this is embarassing, but my laptop has no problems driving the cans. I am runinng a compaq armada, 4 years old. Usually, the volume is loud and I can barely move the bar to 1/3 max volume. Using the DT431, I think need about 2/3 the power to get decent volume. So, the answer to my original question in this thread is, not enough ouput to drive this pair of DT431, others probably can.

    DT431

Realised that the Klogs can't fit into a mini-plug. Oh well, I guess the choice is to go for the monster cable mini-plug to RCA. I didn't quite like monster cables last time, but I think I will give it a try anyhow. I still like something to tame the DT431s down at the treble range.
  19. Ok, I went down to Hung, tested it out on the equipment there, it sounds ok. I think it's probably my equipment and I have been trying to crank it up to acceptable volume (for me) and thus the crackling. Dunno, but I feel that either the mp3 player direct is not powerful enough or the amp (Creek OBH11) is not powerful enough. Hung was using a rolls 4-way, I wonder.
  20. As with all players, navigation is a pain. Sort them out into musicians and then albums lar. Muvo2 allows you to use multiple level folders. Which is a great feature, I say. I am not very experienced with the other mp3 players, but how does the navigation thru a huge lis tof songs less of a chore?
  21. And I thought I was long time customer. But honestly, I haven't been there in recent years. It's still at Beach Road there right?
  22. And if you have the habit of hanging the PX200 around your neck (I do that), I am sure you wun want the DT231s cos they sure look weird hung around the neck!
  23. may I recommend the Beyers DT231. I heard it when I was deciding if I should buy the PX200. Sound is definitely more refined and a notch up from the PX200. But in terms of portability, not that great cos the drivers are bigger. But for the price, it's really musical.
  24. I usually set it to neutral when paired up with something other than PX200. But I realise that if you set the custom eq's top end to maxed out, it distorts easily. Oh yes, the PX is a little flimsy if you ask me. I tend to take extra care handling it and I dun know when the lever is going to give way.
  25. Yep, dark is a better word. I use muffled because I feel the singers are singing with a blanket over their mouths.
