  1. A photo of the layout would be difficult Hand drawing of the schematic is easier I think I understand your explanation, I will draw them in Visio if I have time and post it here. I guess for cheaper solution, you can replace the TLE with 2 equal value of resistors, to create voltage divider. My2Cents Let me know if you go to KOBA, I want to go with you if the timing right

    DIY session

Good idea Probably time and place will be the main problems... Why don't use this forum as the cyber workshop ??? The main topics will be: 1. Basic electronics knowledge of audio components. 2. Basic electronics knowledge of audio circuits, in this case amplifier. 3. How to start DIY, tools, components, etc. 4. Basic Soldering. My2Cents Need comments and advise from DIY Gurus here
  3. Headphonecrazy, got new STAX ? Don't mind share the pics? But I think it is better in the home equipment category Mod edit Default.
  4. Heady, you can fax or send the photo of your grounding schematic, I can make the Visio drawing for you Did you biased the AD8620 into class A with jfet cascode? I only see one transistor... or are they hiding Where did you bought the Nichihon FineGold? Don't mind to share the price with us? I think your pimeta will looks great in Hammond die cast alluminium My2Cents I can pass you the photocopy of the Hammond casing sizes from the Farnell catalog if you need it.
  5. Don't worry I'm not profesional... you can use it if you want
  6. Well, I think we all agree that 'comparison' is not the theme here, the Fun of DIY, that's the theme ! I don't really understand how you combine the BUF634s and the OPA2134 for the pseudo ground. Don't mind to share the connection? I want to try it when we meet up later
  7. I leaned on a fence to keep steady, and the IS is really wonderful also.
  8. Yes, it was cloudy, but now (10:45pm), it is clear already Here is my shot, Canon S1-IS handheld, ISO50 * f/5.6 * 1/250s, croped and processed in PS a little bit, and then sized up 150% with Genuine Fractals. I wish I have a DSLR with long tele
  9. I would say, no way you can find good sub for SGD 200.- that will make your Swans souns better. Cheap sub will spoil the music. Forget it. If you need more bass, IMHO, two options: 1. Save money to buy a better sub. 2. Use a good 2.1 PC speaker.
  10. Thanks Mackie! I was very busy last week, so I finished the amp last minute. My brother came to Singapore last Saturday, and went back on Sunday. I finished the amp Saturday midnight (already Sunday morning actually), so didn't have enough time to test it. Sunday morning, the amp had been burnt-in for about 7 hours. So I only listen to it for a few song tracks from the Chesky Demo Disc. My impression: Very very very natural sound. Almost no coloration at all. I love it. Good bass, thick midrange, and correct level of treble when paired with Grado RS-1. Imaging is excellent. I agree if people said that OPA637 (and 627) is one of the best audio Op-Amp. That is very true! It sounds very musical! Compared to the AD8066 in MyPimeta, not much different, the free AD8066 is really comparable with the SGD 75.- OPA637 (2 chips). The AD8066 sounds a tad brighter, and slightly sounds more 'airy', means you can feel more space between the singers and musical instruments. So the OPA637 is more natural, but the AD8066 has a unique signature which makes it sounds 'high-end'. I mean, the AD8066 signature sound is a very welcome sounds characteristic. With my little experience with Senns, I think Senns better be paired with AD8066 than OPA637. While Grado is better paired with the OPA637. Last night my brother connect it with Sony CDP-XA7, one of the old high-end player from Sony. And he also use Grado RS-1 (we are the Grado team ), here is his comment: Excellent Amp! Sounds very good! It makes the CDP-XA7 sounds thicker and more enjoyable. The amp also makes the imaging very impressive. I hope he said that not just to make me happy When I got time I will share the board layout, so all of you can save your time if you want to make one.
  11. Really ??? Oo, that's sounds good Thanks for the info, will shoot the moon tonight
  12. Photobucket is back online Here is a crop of moon foto taken with my new S1-IS. Handheld at 380mm (35mm eqv.), post processed in PS.
  13. Very nice colors! 1st IMHO the focus should be on the nearest flowers. 2nd try portrait 3rd lovely! I like it! 4th correct exposure, but composition could be better, don't put the tree on the centre... My2Cents
  14. I guess what he meant is, too expensive for the SGD 40.- he proposed earlier, but compare to other sources, he got it cheaper from Bulgaria (but not cheap enough for the budget amp). Am I right Jason ?
  15. I see... Have you asked Digi01? He might be able to help us with the board. I will look for some info, probably in Indonesia you can get it cheaper.
  16. Looks like the A47 you are building... is it? Why do you have to order them from Bulgaria?
  17. Are you willing to learn to build a headphone amp? Or just looking to buy affordable one?
  18. Cute phono amps ! Ever tried to roll the op-amp? Or still using the OPA2134?
  19. I bought it in Indonesia about 8 years ago It is some left over from my University project I think it is gold plated, because of the durability, still very clean and shiny, no stain at all after 8 years in storage. Normal copper will not last that well. I think I saw similar board in SLT, forget where... All are estimated price in S$: 110 for 2x OPA637 & 3x BUF634 40 for Hammond box 20 for the blue ALPS 10 for the Neutrik socket (haven't include the S$2.5 fake neutrik that I bought to mod the spring) With other stuff like the resistors, Panasonic FCs, connectors, mini sockets, switch, cable, etc. It cost around S$250.- parts only. But it matches amps with price 3x or more it's price So still worth
  20. Thanks Absolute0! I didn't buy the PPA board. The newest so far is version 1.1, the different is only in the jfet cascode class a biasing of the op-amp. The version 1 is fixed to 1 mA, the 1.1 is adjustable. Beside that the power supply also different. But here I'm using my own circuit for the power supply, using LM2941 regulator.
  21. Thanks Heady! I use visegrip to grip the cooper wire flat. The cooper wire will expand when heated, so sometime make it difficult to put them nicely. Vicegrip helps a lot. You can borrow it from me, I'm not using it at the moment. The casing is Hammond 1455N1201, I bought it from Farnell-Newark. They are Newark item, so they charge it in USD, it cost me SGD 41.- (w/ GST). I feel it is so expensive, but my brother likes it. I also hope that I can try it longer, but my brother brought it to Jkt already , so I only tested it for a while. But the so far the OPA637 sounds very good with RS-1. My brother will connect it with Sony XA7 CDP and Grado RS-1, and he will share his impression. Waiting for it Anyway, it doesn't sound much different than my Pimeta, for the OPA637 being very neutral with the right level of treble, and the AD8066 feels a tad more 'airy' with a tad brighter treble.
  22. The problem with mini is the size of the jack or socket. Too small for big cables. I'm also looking for good mini jacks, so far can only get the ones available in Sim Lim. Any other suggestion or advise? Photobucket is down , so I can't show you the DIY interconnect I made. Probably later.
  23. If anybody got problem with the pictures from photobucket, here is the link to the pictures in imageshack:
  24. Thanks! You are right, the planning took more time than the actual assembling job I set the voltage at + & - 7.2 volts regulated. Means, can use normal 15 volts adapter which normally gives output at around 18 volts (unregulated), or 2x 9volts battery. It sounds very good to my ears, my brother like it also. I will cover more of how it sounds later. So far had been burnt in for around 7 hours.
  25. Thanks guys! Yes Digi, one BUF634 for the ground channel. I think any headphone (except AKG K1000, they are ear speaker anyway, not headphone) will not need more than 100mA per channel, so the 250mA from the BUF634 should be sufficient. Did you guys had any problem with the pictures? I heard photobucket has network problem
