  1. Bought recently (less than a month) from Mackie, very nicely run-in. Sadly it still produce excessive mid bass for my taste, and have decided to part with it to someone else who may like it.... asking for $80 or best offer Please feel free to follow up this thread... I'll close the thread by 23:59 Jan 5th and deal on the 6th, as I'll be travelling to Kedah Malaysia on the 7th for some business... Thanks! For those whom are public shye ! you can SMS or email offer to me at : 98528400 or tzesian@starhub.net.sg Happy New Year !
  2. Oh! PArdon me ! Just realised this is a portable section... K-66 is not for portable, it's for home !
  3. Go for the AKG K-66 ! it's great can for a price of "steal" !
  4. thanks Mackie ! Happy new year !
  5. If it's not on ! I'd plan a trip to Kedah Malaysia to meet some old friends !
  6. Is the meet on ? 8th January ? where ?
  7. Do let me know, if you can't find it
  8. Hehe... Oistrakh is Kreisler's favourite violinist
  9. Hehe ! I like Oistrakh not just the correct feel of the entry A7 chord. His tone, his reading is the most important thing that rank him as a great virtuoso, of mine. The pitch of a major scale between a full noote such as C->D and D->E of say Key C is not completely equal. And that's why some of the pieces is impossible on a piano ! The difference on a good minor key scaling is even more scary ! Oistrakh's opening chord on the 1st movement violin introduction, had clearly shown his indepth understanding of the composer's motif.... This is one of the most important clue to an artist at this level . Try get a copy, if not laomao copy a CDR for you, you will understand why I say one would not need more than one copy of Beethoven's violin concerto after listening to this one !
  10. Haha You inspire me for something here... The tripple concerto, All three soloists agree with the viewpoint of Herbert... But I'd a very interesting Recording by Oistrakh and Richter, they played the Cesar Frank violin sonata, Aiyoh! You won't believe it ! these two guys disagree with each other, and the violin and piano head in different direction (but the same tempo ! of course !!). Strange it's a very interesting playing ! still very "fire"-ry ! One of my top choice Frank violin sonata !
  11. HI, Fuwen Here it goes ! It's EMI Catalog #CDM7 69261 2 Beethoven and Bruch Violin concertos. The Orchestra for Beethoven is : Orchestra National de la Radiodiffusion Francaise under the baton of Andre Cluytens Recorded in 1958 stereo. The sound quality is very very good. I seriously doubts one would need more than one Beethoven Op. 61 after hearing this one.... Forget about the Bruch in the same CD. Horrible sounding... The heifetz reading does not produce a A7 ascending chord (A,#C,E,G,A,#C,E,G--) but appeared to be based on the absolute pitch of C key... Not my cup of tea, Oistrakh had hit the chord right here. It's seriously the feel of A7 on that ascending scale.... Very very good reading and playing...
  12. Let me intorduce some of my favourite Mahler's recording when I have some time...
  13. Hi, Fuwen Don't lah! If you had heard the stereo Oistrakh on EMI you might not want to buy from me... Another wonderful recording by Oistrakh is his 60th Birthday live recording. Released by RCA. He did a so-so Romance in F on DG (Although this, recording used to be very famous among audiophiles). But His 60th birthday performance/recording is truly upto behold ! A must for all Oistrakh fans !
  14. Hi, Fuwen You really must listen to David Oistrach (Did I spell it wrongly ?) on EMI. I more or less throw away every recording after listening to David's legendary playing !
  15. Clap Clap claps... Mackie ! Woa ! You also listen to Mahler ?! I'd have one more pal/friend in the same frequency ! Best Regards! LaoMao
  16. Woa ! The mid bass is already very tight and punchy now ! Honestly beside the excessive mid bass it has now, I'm already quite happy with it.. Thanks again Mackie !
  17. Just got my DT440 from Mackie last Saturday.... Thanks Mackie ! Too busy to do anything to it... Until today ! Plug the headphone into my tube/mosfet hybrid headphone amp, and power it up, The immediate impression is not bad ! Anyway, let's run in the phone for a while... So I have the Gypsy CD borrowed from the Esplanade library, set in repeat mode in my modified Marantz CD67 CD player, and set off for work, Came home 6 hours later, and start listening... The first impression on the DT440 is Eeeee..... The midrange sounds real familiar to me.... Yes it's the midrange on my KEF LS3/5a ! if not the bass is a little too heavy, the balance is really close to LS3/5a with a slightly roll-off uper range which make the LS3/5a famous ! Curious enough, I start connect other of my phones onto the amp, The AKG 271, immediately shows a much cleaner bottom end, and cleaner than the DT440 in othr part of the audio spectrum . But the DT440 is still new... I really hope the bass reduce a little after the run-in period... Next up is the AKG K501, this is by far the cans I loved the most... The wearing comfort is unquestionable.... Obviously, the signature of AKGs on the lower octave is beautiful. Correctly balance, tuneful and Clean ! Very very clean indeed. The midrange of K501 is also a little lower coloured than the K271Studio. Next up is the sennheiser HD570, I was shocked when first switch to the HD570. It sounded horrible to my ear... The bass not only too much is way too muddy, it totally lacks the cleaniness of any AKGs I owned, inclusive of a very cheap K66. The midrange lacks resolution and refinement as compare to either DT440 or K271S or K501, I switch to another pair of Senn, the HD560 Ovation II. The short-coming is again very appearent to this back dated design, it's more open than the HD570... But the upper range is not natural enough, and it emphasis some upper range make some instrument sounds real metallic. Not my cup of tea... I have a pair of HD497 and had decided to give it a short... The HD497, used to sound quite comfortable on either my discman or MP3 players. The impression remains quite close, on contrary to the AKGs, it still sounded much coloured. and somehow, the refinement put it off from the comparism, anyway the price difference is too much to ask from this very nice cans for walkies .... But wait, I went back to the HD570 again... Oh ! boy, it's even worse than the HD497 ! Among all cans I owned todate, the DT440 is not among the best I love the most, but it's still new, and the first impression after 6 hours of play suggests it still have someheadroom for run-in improvement, let see how thing go a week later. The wearing comfort is the other complaint, not in the class of AKG again, not even the K271S. The AKGs are way more comfortable.... BUt most importantly, it has the legendary midrange on the LS3/5a loudspeaker, if this is the direction you are heading towards, I think, one should give this very listenable cans a try ! Thumbs UP for Beyerdynamic
  18. Honestly, I prefer and listen to my K66 much more than my Grado SR60
  19. Hi, Lekquan My 621 was fed in with a tube pre-amplifier.... capable of feeding no less than 7Vrms into the input of 621.... So, it's not the probelm of the input signal... Honestly, It's placed in a fairly large hall, I've to extend the SP cable to the 2 satellites, if you have the 2 SP placed closed, maybe, they can play quite loud.... But, if they are placed 8 feet apart, producing an symphonic orchestra, the probelm of power shortage is quite obvious... the sound told me, it's not enough....
  20. Am I too late for a pair of DT440 ? Mackie answers: Sent U pm. Keep your fingers crossed.
  21. I'd vote for AKG K66 ! I bought it cheap, and had promised cannot disclose the buy price ! The lower-end model K55 can be heard at the Esplanade library, which is already quite good...
  22. Not really, the orchestra does not really get extremely loud, before distortion starts if there's orchestra slam....Well, Without the slam , I agree, the 621 can go "quite" loud !
  23. Honestly, I owned both 501 and 271, and I don't have a 240... Well between the 2, I pick the 501
  24. Wow! Mackie Good day! Got good lobang for good Beyer dynamic mics ?
  25. Thanks Brothers ! See ya ! please let us know, where to meet as soon as the venue is being confirmed.
