  1. Someone came over to my place and tried out my G&W T2.1a amp. It's a tube amp moded with Hovland Musicaps and silver wiring. He was using the MS2. The music that came from that pairing was one of the best I've heard. The G&W T2.1A is now his. :-) Suggest getting a tube amp to drive the MS2. The music with the pairing was beautiful. I was very tempted not to sell my G&W T2.1a but to purchase an MS2 instead....
  2. I have an Original Master amp in mint condition (hardly used). It comes in the full package including the box. Email me at sayhitojason@yahoo.com if you're interested. Selling for $190. Thanks.
  3. Hi wenjia, I own both the 880 and 990. As elmo mentioned, higher end doesn't always mean good, especially in head-fi or hifi where it is dependent on personal taste. IMHO, the 880 is more neutral across the board, and sounds more closed-up compared to the 990 due to its semi-open design. The 990 is more bassy, and sounds more open (wider soundstage) due to its open design. For me, when I listed to classical, jazz, or when I want to listen critically, I use the 880. When I listen to pop, rock or for gaming, I use the 990. Sometimes, I just use whichever, and they still sound great. Note also that the headphone amp you use plays a part as well. Search the forum for Mackie's review of the Beyer family. He gives a very in-depth view.
  4. Hi Delirious, I have a tube setup that I seldom have the time to use. Sent you a PM. Give me a call if you're interested. You're welcome to come by for a listen.
  5. It'll be helpful to meet someplace central so that it is easy for everyone. Some do not have their own transport and it is difficult to lug heavy items around. I know that the library at Esplanade provides rental of rooms for meeting. Not sure if they have enough powerpoints though, and the room is not that big (approx. twice the size of a 4rm HDB hall).
  6. I'm considering replacing the D70 18-70mm kit lens with a Sigma 18-200mm. Reason is to that I have longer zoom without having to swap lenses (I have a 70-300mm). Anyone can share their experience with both lenses? What I'd like to know is whether the Sigma is as sharp as the kit lens, or maybe even better? Thanks.
  7. D200 - nice camera. But don't think I'll be upgrading for a while, until I've outgrown the D70.
  8. I like the first one (pinkish) one better. Channel mixer? What software are you using? I'm using Bibble Pro. Do you know if this function is available in Bibble? Sorry if the question sounds stupid. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to digital photography, especially post-processing. Cheers!
  9. Hey Blues. Do you mind me asking how you processed that shot of the tree near your house? It's surreal and very beautiful.
  10. I second N@Z's point as well. The rock helps to frame the picture. Great shot Blues. I've not been following this thread, but am getting into DSLR.

  12. Item sold.
  13. Hi Kube, maybe you want to consider listening at lower levels of volume. I mean, playing too loud is bad for the cans, and most importantly, bad for your ears.
  14. I don't think it's a problem of the source. I'm using a Denon DCD-S10 --> Belden 1694A interconnects --> headphone amp --> Beyer DT880. I've done a test with the same equipment chain but a different headphone amp, and the bass was not as heavy. That's why I don't think it's the ancillaries. Test frequencies? Pardon my ignorance, but what is this? Is it like a test equipment of some sort? Don't get me wrong. The amp is great. I love the sound, very full-bodied, detailed yet non-fatiguing. I'm just itching to improve the sound even more, and to my personal taste, I would be happier if the bass has less emphasis, while the rest remains the same. Cheers!
  15. I see. Well, I do not have any spare set of tubes. Guess I have to get one to try out. May I know why you suspect that it is not the tube? Thanks.
  16. Planning to swap tubes for my amp to change the sound. Can someone enlighted me whether the change will be more drastic with the change in input or output tubes? I am using a Mullard CV4003 for input, and JJ EL84 for output. I'm trying to achieve more bass definition but slightly lesser bass emphasis (the mid bass are a tad too loud now). Many thanks!
  17. Yeah, I have the same experience with Kube as well. Our ears naturally get use to the volume. I used to contibuously turn up the volume during extended listening sessions. Then when I take a short break and continue, I find the volume to be very loud! For the last couple of months, I have experienced slight ringing in my ears. So nowadays, I listen to low volumes late at night/early in the morning. One gauge that I use to make sure the volume is not too loud is that I can still hear the noises around me. Enjoy the music, but take care of your health too.
  18. I have had the privilege to audition the Rotel RCD-971 recently, and have previously owned the Marantz 63KI. My preference is the Rotel. I found the Rotel more neutral and does not emphasize any frequency. The 63KI tended to emphasize the mids. I think it emphasizes the highs as well because I could never listen to the Marantz for a long time (I somehow get irritated). One thing though, I was comparing them using speakers with a metal dome tweeter. End of the day, music preference is personal. So go out and audition! With headphones, it should be easier, as you can carry the headphones and the amp to the shop. Just my 2-cents.
  19. Renesis, Mackie: I'm going on a trip to Sydney next week (19 - 21 Sep 2005) on a business trip. If you want, and can get the product on time, I can offer to bring the headphones to you.
