  1. Does Dr. Amp sell here? I remember an amp which allows opamp rolling, and is branded too...want to know just in case my diy cmoy doesn't pan out...
  2. For the pot order number, check the first page by jasonhanjk. I ordered from Federal, which just reroutes the components from Farnell to Sim lim tower for our conveniance. It's a tad more expansive for Federal, but it sure beats going all the way down Eunos...Normally just tell the salesperson at the counter the part number, he or she will check for stock. If have then that's it, you collect and go. The only benefit I see from going to the Farnell trade counter is that I get a poly discount
  3. Generally people don't use the digital outputs. That's more for recording midi and stuff like that. I stick to analog.
  4. Somehow...I've got this feeling that I took too long to solder the jumper wires to my stereo female sockets....hence them getting burned, and hence bad sound. Can't be left over solder since I thoroughly cleaned the board until it was nice and shiny like before...used minimum of solder to solder the components on...maybe it's the lm6171 or the opamps I'm using...Anyway, waiting for the pot from federal to come...so no rush

    New Shures

Yay, black rocks. Any idea when it'll be arriving in sg?

    New e2cs

I haven't tried foamy's yet...but rubber sleeves from the md33 are quite comfortable. When I wear them...it's almost as if I'm not wearing anything. Very comfy
  7. Nice! Where'd you get that alu. casing?!...Nice knob too As for my prob...source is a Zen micro, with the default earphones that came with it. Don't want to test with my hd280pro, scared it might get damaged or something...
  8. Wow..that's expansive...why not ask someone here in Sg to buy the stuffs from farnell then mail you?
  9. Ok...got round to getting a 2nd board and doing everything all over again, this time with more patience and experience, of course Everything's set up for use (as in all connections made), flux cleaned the bottom thoroughly, jumpered the right and left channels where the pot's supposed to be...and still Strangely, when I put my fingers underneath the connections, I can sometimes get clear sound. How's that? Also, LM6181 can work in place LM6171.
  10. Huh? If there's stub left in the hole, just do use a plier to take it out while melting the remainding solder, or juse use a toothpick to push it out when the solder's liquid. Question to ask: How the Rubycon cap line differ? I went to buy an e-cap, it has the same values, but different product line. Can still use?
  11. I haven't listened to a PX100, but you can't really compare a ep-630 with a px200...the px200 is more open, doesn' have the 'closed' feeling of an in-ear, though the in-ear does provide isolation. I'd probably get a px200 if I worked in a quiet environment for long hours, like an office or something.
  12. Japanese-make? What kind of brands or good phones' can't we not get in Singapore?
  13. Caps or opamps. Not sure how to test them though. Kross: Goto LHS in SLT. There is an open back 3 pin female jack. Costs about 3dollars each.
  14. One word of advice...NEVER USE ANY FORM OF TIN WIRES (Are they tin?). The ones that tend be not so malleable and break. Especially if you're troubleshooting. I had to resolder all my jumper wires with multistrand copper. Of course, in the process, I burnt one e-cap. I singed the cap, and though now all my connections are solid, my sound is still crap. I'm going to try replacing the lm6171 with the lm6181, and the opamp with a opa2228. Sigh....should I start over?...
  15. Erm....flux cleaner? Uh oh.
  16. Took out the ground opamp and jumpered the socket. Not much of a difference. Strange enough though, when I DID it out, and then put it back again, the oscillations were gone. However, it is perhaps that it's now inaudible, rather than an irritance I can hear. Also, with a gain of just 2, am I suppose to get a large increase of volume? To me, except for sound quality, the volume seems to be the same.
  17. Ok...just built the thing...and now very irritated. I've got oscillations in my circuit, as in the 'whee' sound as mentioned earlier. Hmm...I wouldn't say my solder joints are bad, some of them might be slightly dirty and hence bulge a bit. The oscillations become inaudible, or go away, when I touch any of the output socket's pins. Also, I don't seem to get any volume increase. Using a 64ohm hd 280pro, and when I plug it in, I don't have a substantial increase in volume. Strangely, however, when I touch the joints for the resistors 2 - 8, I get the increase, but not by much. Regarding that....I sorta soldered both pads on either sides of the board for the resistors. For example, I soldered one of the legs of R5 on both sides? Is this ok? Using a 9V batt. Think the whole thing's screwed up?
  18. Well, the only reason I have currently to visit Federal is the Farnell catalogue book. The only place else I can see one is at my poly. BTW, does anyone else find it hard to find stuff on their online catalogue?
  19. Kube

    pocket headamp

Looks interestingly simple...being that you used a common breadboard.
  20. Hah, no, no, there's nothing wrong with the first page, it's crystal clear. I'm just checking before I go off to solder...cause it's pretty damn hard to remove solder from this board. A question about the jacks though...what happens if one decides to use the cheap plastic jacks from SLT? They come with 6 pins...so is it possible to still use them?
  21. Ok...got most of the stuffs, except 2 jacks and the pot which I'm waiting from Farnell...film resistors, switch, led and sockets from Koba. Lol, got lost today, went to PP COMPLEX instead of CENTRE... Just asking though, for the LED, the auntie there told me that most Led's are 3V. A little hazy on which resistor to use. If I use a led, and 9v battery....I should then buy a 1/2w film resistor 1.2kohms, right? Hmm...my resistors from R1 to R8 are 1/4w - 2 10ohms, 6 10kohms - is that correct? Hmm...gonna go SLT to find some gold jacks...
  22. Cool...do they sell ALL the stuffs? I mean, maybe I still have to get the hammond and opamps from farnell?
  23. Ok...I'm now just going to coalesce all the parts needed...so just a question...for the all minor parts like IC sockets and the resistors, I can just get from SLT, right? If not where's the best place to get high quality components of the above? And also, is it possible to just pick and choose components at Farnell at their counter? Cause I don't know where to find good volume pots...
