I had the time off to audition the Creative T20 & T40 at Marina Square's Creative with my iPod and I was impressed with the tweeters in the speakers. Highs and Mids were impressive for a 2.0 system. Bass is lacking the omph but at least the low notes were tight, somehow articulated and controlled. The bass controls did not helped much but the T20 is worth the money at $159. The T40 at $249 would be an overkill because it is big, so since it's already that big on your desk, might as well invest in a 2.1 system. Aego M or Klipsch GMX A2.1. Had the time to walk to EpiCentre@Suntec and tried the Bose (at first i thought it sounded good) but after listening to both the Creatives, I was disappointed. Muddy muddy muddy. Absolutely not worth the $199 pricetag. I also tried the Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 in the past and it's a recommended 2.0 system too but it does crack when pushed to the limits. The last time i saw a boxed set of it was at Sim Lim Square, 2 months ago. However, considering the build quality and reliability issues (doubt they have any service centre here), my advice would be to get the Creative T20 if you want a 2.0 system. Came home, played the same tracks on my Klipsch GMX A2.1, still like my current set-up. Smiley

I've been using the Klipsch GMX A2.1 for 3 years. I paid $290 for them. Nice satellite, especially the tweeters. They're not neutral sounding as the sub woofer is massive sounding. Not a bad speaker for games, for music, EQ tweaking is needed, especially in the mid-range for a warmer sound. You can audition the Bose Companion 3 Series II, they are not too bad too.

I finally got my first portable set-up. Go-Vibe v5s with a nice DIY cable. Not bad except for the bulk. My UM1 does get distortion when the volume of the amp is too high. What's the cause of this?

You're welcome. An IC basically is a mini male 3.5mm - mini male 3.5mm. It really does makes a difference to the sound coming out from your amp. But whether you feel that it's worth the $$ spent is another decision to make.

The iPod LOD, i got it from Jaben at $25 not a bad price. Considering it's selling USD $30-$39 w/o shipping. Once you get the iPod LOD, you can then purchase an IC. Alternatively, you could get the cables with the iPod dock connector on the IC already, in which you just plug the cable to your amp directly. You can check our Stereo Electronics or Jaben.

Ok, so I got a Go-Vibe 5s with my iPod and it sounds great. However, I need a small IC as it doesnt come with any. Tried the custom ICs at Jaben, two out of 4 were solid but for $65, I just couldn't part with my money. Will be going down to Stero to try their shorter ICs. The Go-Vibe is much bigger, I just wished it could be smaller...

yar ok. meanwhile, i was thinkin of getting a crossroad LOD and a volume control for my UM1. Is it possible to do that? listening thru the lineout without an amp?

I tried the C&C Box and Minibox CL at Jaben today with my UM1, iPod LOD. Nothing "Wow". Maybe it's my headphones... MP3 quality - LAME 3.97, VBR. I'm undecided between the two, though prefer the C&C. Are there anymore headphone amps that I should try out? My budget can be stretched to $200+. They say the Go-Vibe 7 is coming to Jaben and Jaben doesnt seem to carry the Minibox E. hmmm... I saw the Tomahawk, so pretty but didnt dare to try it... haha!

What's LOD? anyway, i'm looking for a LOD with a 3.5mm socket in it. Anyone knows where I can get one? Or anyone making it cause i'm totally clueless on soldering. I want to use it for my amp and one a 3.5mm - 3.5mm IC. Thanks!

I see. Thanks alot! Been readin at head-fi too and there are just too many amps out there. My budget would be something below $100 and thinking of upgrading to a nice IC too so roughly about $150 would do the job. Below $100, I can only find the LDM+ at $53(MO) or PA2V2 at $60-$70 (2nd hand).

Hi folks, I'm currently using an iPod 4G (Mono) and a pair of UM1. I'm now contemplating on getting a nice amp to enhance my audio experience. I would want a portable amp so as to use it on the go and at home (with my Macbook + Klipsch GMX A2.1). Any recommendations? I have researched on the LDM+ and PA2V2 and is leaning towards the PA2V2. Do I use the amps through the iPod earphone jack or through the bottom line-out. I would prefer a more balanced sound signature. Thanks peeps!
