  1. sibei gian leh, actually managed to get some components oredi. But, while compiling the BOM via farnell some components need to order like in 10 while u only need one. Damn wasteful man. Looks like a trip to Koba and SLT is needed...
  2. Guys, Y1 boards are out. http://www.amb.org/shop/
  3. wa, $35USD (shipping not included) for a pair of faceplate's pretty steep, maybe can ask AMB for the dimensions. Then we could do something like we did for the Mini3 the last time. Probably at $SGD35
  4. Well according to the instructions, it seems that they do need to be matched. Not too sure if there'll be any sound diff or not, prob slight. http://www.diyforums.org/MAX/MAXconstruction.php
  5. Getting those transistors locally is not an easy feat, better off ordering already matched ones from beezar. BTW, are u building the mosfet or BJT version?
  6. Free shipping? alamak, should have hooked up with you man. I got some stuff to order from there for my MH too....
  7. You can try getting blackgates from ahfartaudio, I got mine from there before for a sound card mod (x-fi). http://www.ahfartaudio.com/about/contact.html Frankly speaking, I'm not so sure about black gates though. The amount of money spent on one blackgate can buy many other 'boutique' caps (like muse, silmic, etc) if you're considering using them in the signal path. Who knows? They might sound better too.
  8. Haha ok, maybe can bring for during the next meet or something. Managed to get my hands on some 2SC 2344/2SA 1011. Prob gonna use them for my JISBO n MH max builds in the future. Will be interesting to find out how different the two will sound.
  9. So how does the combo sound? Is it like what they said at the site? neutral to warm sound, strong bass, yet detailed. cheap and easy to source (at least in Europe). For the tubes, tot of GE 5963 or 6680, read somewhere that it does everything good, from the lows to the highs and esp soundstage. I like the expansive feeling of space in my music But bad thing is that it's such a b*tch to find in SG, so I'm kinda stuck now...
  10. Heady, just curious, what are you using for Q5 n Q6 for your JISBO? I'm building a SOHA too and probably a standalone JISBO for connecting with other amps. adn6244, minimax pcb out already? Tot I saw on head-fi that it'll be available at glassjar after the cases are done. Weird way of doing things though, tot it's always PCB first than cases... Too bad I already got the normal max board. Otherwise, i'd have waited for this.
  11. I guess you're gonna add AMB's Y1 onto your list once PCBs are out too right ?
  12. Yeah, i suppose, talking about being unshielded, my recent builds cased in plastic has been picking up quite a bit of handphone, ac, noises from the enivironment. Think I'm gonna case all builds in the future in metallic casings and ground them to signal ground. Those handphone GSM signals in my office is driving me crazy...

    bypass capacitor?

Noob here, pardon me if i'm wrong... If you're thinking about changing sound signature, they'll go on the signal path, virtual ground. Check out the schematic at tangentsoft to get a better idea, C2 (amplifier section) should be the one you're talking about. http://tangentsoft.net/audio/cmoy-tutorial...tangent-sch.pdf After that, head on down to the sites below to get an idea of what kind of caps to use for the type of sounds you want. Hope this helps! http://tangentsoft.net/audio/input-cap.html http://tangentsoft.net/audio/cmoy-tutorial/tweaks.html#caps http://ecp.cc/cap-notes.html http://headwize.com/ubb/showpage.php?fnum=3&tid=2040
  14. Yup, tats wat I've been doing with excess cat5 cables for wiring, just 3 wires for left, right and ground. Used it for power supply too. Reason I'm using this is because I'm not so confident with my skills yet, just trying to save on cost wherever I can. There are 8 strands of solid copper in a network cable, so 1 m = 8m of solid copper wires, more than enough for a few projects. Got the idea to use network cables from this site actually. Yeah, the article isn't really about sound. It's just to say how cat6 cables are better than cat5 in data transfer. Actually, I was thinking since cat6 cables are better in data transfer than cat5, there might be a difference in how it makes it sound as well. Just like how silver is suppose to be better than copper for sound.
  15. I got those silver plated copper ones. Frankly speaking, like not much diff with my friend's crossroad pure silver i/c leh. Word of advise, try not to get too thick a cable. It's a b*tch to braid if they're too stiff. Too bad koba doesn't have any very skinny ones that are easy to braid at the moment. BTW, if you guys manage to get CAT6(not cat5E) ethernet cable, try making interconnects with them. Could be worth a try and if performance wise is on par with silver, this alternative could save us a bit more money Difference between cat5e and cat6
  16. Yup, just bought some last week too. DIY pure silver i/c really beats buying a pure silver i/c anytime.
  17. Yah, i tot i saw something similar to mini3 pot, was there last week btw
  18. Hi guys, need 2 x LND150 or 2 x 1N5297, do PM me if you've got any to spare, thanks! Need either one to complete some SOHA projects that's been sitting around for the longest time....
  19. Interesting topic, Would be interesting if we could make one tat works, heh heh. Put one layer of paper soaked with wax or oil, one layer of paper thin conductor (silver or copper foil, maybe can even get those gold foil you find in the temple, haha!), dip in wax n or probably epoxy n u're done.

Yah, same here abt clearing projects, really quite a chore just procuring the items on the BOM. I'm looking out for AMB's new DAC too, too bad about his fall though. Hope he gets well soon...

How does it sound compared to Alien DAC? Bet the new DAC tat AMB is coming up with got you back into building this right? heh heh!
  22. MO when it comes out yeah? I'll be watching too
