  1. omg!.. after running it for 20hrs+.. its beginning to warm up.. very funny decay problem!.. but that sound is wierdly addictive..
  2. modern mp3players have in built in them a pretty flexible equalizer for some brands.. and even without the amp.. you can actually tweak the sound to your satisfaction..
  3. haiz..i m very hesistant about repairs these days cuz repairs dont exactly last sometimes.. :S i could diy a bit tho.. i have the exact same switch in my electronics toolbox lazy to open
  4. wow happy bdae.. another person born on the same day as i m.. my best birthday present came in a form of. a conversation with the girl i've been beo-ing .. the stunning discovery was that it is also her birthday today! and she said she's gonna bring some cake to share with me
  5. apart from audio.. one of my other hobbies's chinese tea.. omg people used to think of me as someone from the older generation but i m only 21 my parents were pretty when i spent a few hundred bucks on chinese tea (pu-erh tea). they are like.. heyy.. pu-erh tea is still pu-erh.. when you brew it... its still dark red!.. worth paying more than 10 times for some when others grades go for so much cheaper? when they drink tea, whether higher grades or less higher grades, once in a while they only mentioned of small subtle differences, this is slightly smoother.. this has a nice slightly sweet after taste and blah.. tea is still tea. but to me it is what i find in the cup that satisfies me, the richness without astrigency, the purity of taste with careful aging, the depth from the years. not all people find this appealing though. i know what i am looking for, and there is a yardstick for comparison in my mind. its not that lypk doesnt have good ears i guess, the only thing is he hasnt really in his mind found the sound he is most satisfied with. his satisfaction comes more from the music itself, as compared to the more qualitative details. maybe the more he listens, and the more exposure he gets.. some day he will finally formulate and understand and develop his own yardstick for comparison.
  6. haha there's something wrong with this amp.. there is some leakag of signal somewhere, i change the source selection, up the vol and i can hear slight nuances of my cd player source.. the led flickers!!!!!!!!!!!! irritatingly and the sound decay isnt subtle.. instead there is a tiny bit of delay in sound decay.. and it sounds funnily airy.. i quite like that tho.. haha
  7. erm.. most warranties do not cover the replacement unit unfortunately you should check with the distri.. oh no.. another marantz
  8. loop output?? hmm not v common sometimes, but loop output is rca or similar output which you can actually connect some recording device to for recording purposes.. if i m not wrong.. this can also be modded into a headphone out.. never used it b4 anyone can confirm this?
  9. forgot to add, people put different price tags to what they deem is satisfaction to them. whatever the case, be it a $50 amp, to a $20k amp, as long as one finds the desired satisfaction, satisfaction is priceless
  10. i guess different individuals have different thresholds on what they perceive as good sound. some would prefer very high dynamics, depth, the rich thumps without the mids and highs being overwhelming at that volume (i.e. a more laidback representation) some would prefer warmth, and richness, whilst the reall audio conneiseurs are those who are pretty nitpicky abt detailing. one should think, and consider what sort of sound he is most satisfied with, and what type of sound he is looking for. i've probably spent only close to a thousand odd on headphones n stuff, but still have not really found the sound which i seeked. i've been listening to slightly better quality sound since i was young i guess. when my dad was quite into audio with his colleagues etc, the primary amp setup was downstairs(thiel and copland setup), and having an unbelievably long living room, with full sized speakers, i can still remember that airy soundstage the width, depth, dynamics, and the details all elucidated in perfect harmony. my dad gave up that hobby probably 6-7 years ago. i was in sch pretty much and didnt have much time to fiddle around either. most components were sold except some remnants which i've moved up into my room. no longer having the same components, and not having adequate space upstairs, plus the fact that my elder sis complains whenever i play music out loud.. i've decided to take a closer look to headphones.. search's still on. i realised a difficult balance to strike sometimes, to have decent dynamics, some headphones have to be driven harder, and louder volumes etc, but it becomes a little discomforting at those volumes as compared to a speaker set-up condensed energy vs more diffused forms..
  11. headfi has one link somewhere for some diy millet design on ebay for bidding... cant remember where it is already
  12. hmm.. its working!.. except the switch.. the led flickers testing it on a pair of cheapo earphones right now.. i hope it doesnt blow up lol if all goes well i shall try it on my grados/beyers/shures on my cheap senns it sounds pretty airily dynamic.. v wierd for a transistored amp
  13. i've put off getting the hf-1, i preferred something more laid back. i would think of the HF-1 to sound definitely in its own way warmer, but in no entirety similar to the rs-1. the performance of the sr 325i is outstanding, in a class of its own, with plastic mount/metal resonant, and diff voice coil. no one has yet a burnt in hf-1 to accurately put it against the 325 :S bah!! so many varients of the grado sound which one does one eventually prefer? i've got itchy hands. used to do alot of case modding stuff for computers and blahblahblah. still have quite a few power tools at home. maybe if i dont happen to sell off my grados sr-80.. i might end up.. finding a way to make a full wooden sr-80 lol. maybe doing it jbl style? soaking mahogany sheet in japanese sake then heat bending it to shape just like making a guitar body. worth the try?
  14. hmm.. wat is your source? do you have test frequencies?? i run test frequencies once in a long while to make sure my tubes are in working condition, able to reproduce the necessary frequencies etc.. tried other inter-connects?
  15. yup... it will damage them.. the mechanism works in a way like erm.. a copper wire coil in a magnetic field (permanent one from the magnets inside the cans..) as your pass alternating current through the copper wire.. physics.. current carrying wire will generate its own magnetic field etc.. and this magnetic field sorta either attract/repel the permanent magnetic field.. resulting in vibration/sound reproduction.. if you drive them very hard.. i.e. very high current running through.. you might force the coil to actually move out of its comfortable range of vibrational motion, resulting in "crackling" and also may burn the thin wire the coil is made from.. fine wire.. higher resistance.. plus high current..
  16. eh you stay near khatib camp side or blk 800+ side? or 600++?
  17. hmm.. by the time it lands in singapore its 400+ hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmMM..
  18. june this year from music by design
  19. not too sure whether classifieds in sgheadphones do promote MWTS threads.. mwts = might want to sell, if i get my beyers tmrw, i probably wont need another spare headphone around, Grados SR-80, very well kept, seldom used cuz it doesnt provide me any single bit of noise isolation from my noisy neighbours and roommates in hall.. asking price : $115 (to deal nxt weekend if sale is confirmed) $100 if deal in NTU (anywhere in ntu, any day next week during weekdays) hope the price is reasonable.. going at probably close to 60% shelf price. to be confirmed by tmrw!
  20. i generally stick to a pretty fixed volume of listening.. but occasionally for the kick of it i would just up the volume a little for much fuller dynamics.. might be a bad habit tho
  21. if you drive them too hard the coil might burn out..
  22. yup.. new cd players are much cheaper these days.. a long while ago this player cost me 500 or was it 550.. i found the sound bit more forthcoming esp the strings & mids, which compeled me to send this for repair for almost 60% of its cost price.. and now its down.. guess time to hunt for a new one or attempt a self repair lol
  23. cd-63se.. repaired once for $300, had the whole cd tray mechanism replaced not economically feasable to continue repairing it this time :S
