    Ready for W1000

Talk about right place at the right time!
  2. Rameish, if you see the Sony MDR-7056/V6 again pick one up for me. I think that price is too good to pass up!
  3. Thanks man... knew I could count on you for lightining speed response!
  4. Northern Oak, your wife will know believe me they just know! That look on your face when you have a new toy is unmaskable! Hehehe! Also, never argue with a woman's logic, you will never win
  5. Let him have time to enjoy & listen to it 1st
  6. bulkie: Why don't you try putting up you Ad here too might generate more interest. Plus it's closer to home.
  7. Grado RS-1/$1,200/Music By Design/Adelphi Sennheiser MX-400/$30/Changi Airport! Ablaze: Where did you get the DNM Reson cables from. Might want to add it here too.
  8. I bought mine from Music By Design too. Chris is very accommodating to my requirements. Only thing is I'm not sure they have the full line of Grados in store. I could be wrong as that was last year when I went there. No harm in going there and asking them about the Alessandros & trying out some headphones too.
  9. Congratulations ablaze. So it's not just your avatar that's swelling right now! So what would be a good sound card for the Apple Powerbook or is the standard fitted on it is good enough?
  10. Nahh... my sis is a little like my dad when he buys cars... never replace it till it breaks!
  11. Presently I have the ER-4S (higher impedance version which works better with an amp but basically the same as the ER-4P) & previously Grado SR80 was the closest I had so I will offer my comparisons based on them. Sound wise the Etys sound totally different from the Grados. The ER-4S sound is Neutral (Not too much of any particular frequency range) & very detailed. The downside is it can sound a little dry & some people find that it lacks (visceral) bass. The SR80 on the other hand sounds forward, slightly bright & the bass is punchy. In my experience both can be used unamped but they will work & sound significantly better with a headphone amplifier. More so in the case of the Etys due to it's higher impeadence. Direct comparison between then two is not really fair as the price performance is not in the same league. The ER-4P are alot more expensive than the Grado SR80 however each one has it's pros & cons which I won't go into for the moment since your last question is on sound quality alone. Taking aside price & practicalities. The ER-4S have an excellent sound quality compared with the SR80. Use it with a good source, cables & amplification... it will reward you with amazing sound quality. Bare in mind this is my opinion only. I like Grados too, my RS-1 should attest to that. It's just that I use the Ety's more than them. Try before you buy if you can, you may find you might like the Grado sound or some other headphones better.
  12. Nice one Northern Oak. Enjoy your new toy. Avatar looks good too. Would love to hear your initial, 48 hrs & 150 hrs impressions. Keep us posted.
  13. Hi guys, Just thought I'd exercise/flex my moderating muscles a little, haven't had the chance to use it yet. Since this is technically the Classified Forum can you confine the post concerning the sale only. Should you like to discuss further (I know I would, being an Ety owner FANATIC myself ) please start a new thread in the main Forum. If you'd like Ryan why not post some of your initial impressions of the Etys & we can pick up from there. Also, congrats on the new purchase Ryan & ting on selling your Etys in less than 1 day! OK I'll sign off now before I too get out of hand!
  14. Darn it... my sis says she's still using it
  15. Why the sad face ting? It had a happy ending to his tale.
  16. It's still Pending confirmation. I will let you know whether the buyer confirms or not.

    RCA to mini Plug

Updated the picture link. To quote a song: "I'mmmmmm wicked & I'm layyyyyzeeeeee" In my defence the DNM Reson I/C with the Bullet plugs are a pain to get on & off due to it's high clamping force. Why do I feel like I just earned an "F" here?
  18. How do you find out which socket is for which channel on the RCA to mini plug? I notice that none of the plugs sold here have any colour coding or indication on the RCA input sockets to differentiate the channels. http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/naz7577/vwp?.di...view=t&.hires=t

    DIYers

Ablaze: Can I make a wild guess that you probably could build your own computer's CPU? jtfoo: To me you can DIY! Edited my original post to be a bit more specific.

    DIYers

If you are, what can you build specifically? Headphone amps (CMOY, CHA47, META42, Gilmore, Corda), speakers anything else... I thought it might be helpful to find out so we know who we can turn to should we want to get a DIY amp built. Me? I voted NO for obvious reasons! I put in "other" just in case your answer is not black or white. Make sure you explain why. Happy voting. Edit: DIY - Do it yourself. Doesn't matter if you copy someone else's design as long as you can build something that will work.
  21. Thanks ablaze. No there isn't one here. I think my sis might have an old Sony PCDP, maybe I'll try to blag it off her!
  22. The Grado SR80 is pretty good actually especially if you get a headphone amplifier for it. The CHA47 was practically designed for it. It should fit your budget very well. I personally prefer it with Headroom's Total Airhead as it tames the SR80's slightly harsh sound. Only disadvantages are the CHA47 is DIY only & the TAH is way out of your budget. You could either try buying used or get someone to build it for you (CHA47). You could try to stretch for the Porta Corda II, correct me if I am wrong Rameish, it should suit a wider range of headphones should you plan to upgrade in the future.
  23. Where exactly is cash converters?

    newbie needs help

Rameish: Interesting Brightness scale. I assume the HP-1's are somwhere in the middle i.e. Neutral. dgps: Some very good points raised here. I'd like to highlight the practical aspects besides sound quality, especially if you don't plan to spend more on future upgrades. Do you need closed or open - especially important if you need isolation from outside noise or not disturb others. Factor in cost of cables/interconnects - good quality, does not necessarily mean expensive but makes a noticeable difference nevertheless. Most 'premium' cables tend to be stiff so you might want the connectors to be the right angle type to prevent stress on the cables should you have your gear hooked up in a bag. Will you require the amp to be Portable or 'trans'portable - Definition: portable - battery powered; Transportable - mains powered/wallwart but small/light enough to be moved around. I actually prefer a combination of both, External powered but can use both a battery pack for portable & AC to DC transformer for static use. Since you will be going to the US anyway, if you can wait, another option to save you the trouble of carrying the stuff there, you could get a DIY amp like the META42 there. Getting Grados or Ety's should cost cheaper there. Hope I didn't confuse you even further! Good luck.

    Mod Creek OBH-11

If it is as good as he says it is. It is definitely a good buy for its age & if shipping included. I used to own a Creek integrated amp so I can attest to its good build quality. Sound wise, well... haven't heard the headamp before but based on mods carried out it should improve the sound quality further. Go for it.
