Hi all, Haven't been around for awhile. First job, first weeks, man i miss school life. Want to ask, are there any PDAphiles here? What's the coolest / bestest thing in the market now? As in, if you had a choice and budget isn't a problem, which would you get? Appreciate any inputs on this. (And no, this is not for myself. The company's thinking of buying one for the CEO to use.) (Though i hope to get to play with it first. )
  2. They're the flat and longish silver type. Don't remember the original's model number but i remember buying an NiMH variant (orange base) with a higher mAh rating.
  3. Ah, i don't have my rechargeables no more. Speaking of which, if you still have yours, i think i have a quick charger (10 mins to half charge, half an hour to full) if you or anyone wants to have it. =) Will have to look for it first tho'.
  4. Still willing to mail it to you to try if you like. But i'm thinking Mat wants to keep it as a permanent accessory more than just for the mega-bass equalisation features. After all, a CD player without a display is a little dampening. And the buttons on the remote are more comfortable to use than the ones on the unit itself. Mackie, your idea works. =) But not with my player anymore, unfortunately. I find that it tends to lose its "memory" after awhile (power outtage required, yes). Didn't have this problem in its wonder years though. Maybe it's cos i was using rechargeables and there was always that amount of power left to save the bass boost setting.

  7. No denying that there are less-than-positive elements of our society. But take heart in that there is that (sizeable) portion of sensible, rational, kind and sensitive Singaporeans out there. You're really nice, for one.
  8. I think it's cos he loves his bamboo pipe. and drums of course. I read in an article somewhere that around the time of his Live in America concert, either before or after, he retreated to the mountains and sat cross-legged, beating his drums while staring at nature. Apparently he didn't stop when his hands started bleeding. He just bandaged them and continued playing. I mean, i love his music but whoa.. Has anyone seen him in concert? Closes his eyes half the time and swivels his long hair around. ;-) And who says he doesn't like synthesized sounds? His concert in 1995 (the only one i've been to) he was playing this weird sound-effect-making-machine for 40 mins! Was quite a pain, actually. Started off his second half after the intermission doodling with his very electronic sounds.
  9. It's definitely tempting, Guy. Heh. Will be hoping to audition it in a quieter environment sometime in the next coupla months. Although, like i keep saying, Mackie's equipment works miracles as a depressant. Doctors should prescribe it.
  10. Can't disagree with you there. Going to start work coming Tuesday. Mackie and Oak were telling me that all i'd take is three months max before i start itching to upgrade. Nooooo...
  11. Hey, no problem. I've spent years smiling like an idiot in the streets / on the bus while listening to that discman. Many wonderful memories with it. And hey, if there's no reply or if no one knows how to get a replacement in the near future, i could always mail you mine for you to try it for awhile. No trouble.
  12. I've dropped Sony Singapore an enquiry through their website. Let's see if they reply.
  13. Oh! Didn't know that there're no fixed outputs on the 6000. Was gonna suggest that cos i did an A/B with my denon cdp and there was a big difference in quality. But that's an old player. Ten years old.
  14. Part number for the D-777 remote is RM-DM20L. Hope it's useful. Experience with the remote: "bass boost" setting 1 (low) seems to improve the overall quality, including the highs. =) Listening tastes matter, of course. And although this is cumbersome, what i remember doing previously (i rarely use the 777 anymore) is to set the bass boost to 1, then unplug the remote and connect earphones directly to the pcdp jack. Going through the remote unfortunately reduces the sound quality by quite a bit. Thank goodness they've ameliorated this characteristic with their newer remote designs. Have fun with your new toy!
