    Dr Amp

BTW, a cheaper alternative is the Sonic T-Amp which someone is trying to sell locally in echoloft classified. I have considered it but prefered Dr Amp becoz of its robustness, quality-built and the fact that it comes with a "matched" power supply. And good luck on the thingy
  2. Just noticed the revival of this thread after 3 months. I have moved beyond that IC and have since been DIYing my own using either SPC (Silver plated copper) cables or Canares Cable (L2TS2) and with Neutrik or Canares Plugs from LHS. BTW, SPC (Silver plated copper) cable is used in the above IC.

    Dr Amp

It is interesting where this thread is straying to .... Anyway ... I have owned the Dr AMP for a couple of months and using it in my study as a small room solution. My setup ... Ipod or CD player (via a DIY switch box) > dr amp > Mordaunt Short MS10i; using DIY Canare cables and plugs for interconnects and speakers. Great amp for driving speakers with high sensitivity, the MS10i is 88db, and the above setup has wowed quite a number of my "audiophile" buddies. Range well reproduced with a touch of warmth ... jazz and vocal sounds great with the above setup. And because it's digital, it is small and does not get too hot (which is great for putting it anywhere). It's sitting on top of my PC under my study desk. I have tried the amp with speakers like Quad 11L and Kef iQ7 ... you get OK sound but just not musical ... not enough power to drive these. Choice of source made a difference too ... it sounds fantastic with a good CD player. Buy this if you have space constraint, own high sensitivity speakers, want something better than your average mini-hifi; and want to surprise your buddies who believe that good sound comes from spending tonnes and from well known brand. And what's with the gf thingy .... better this than other indulgences. And if it's challenging now ... wait until you get married
  4. These are the 10 songs that define the 80s for me: 1. Every time you go away - Paul Young 2. Life in a northen town - Dream Academy 3. Some people - Depeche Mode 4. Sail this ship alone - Beautiful South 5. Careless Whisper - George Michael 6. In a big country - Big Country 7. Through the barricade - Spandau Ballet 8. Take On Me - Aha 9. Forever - Alphaville 10. New Moon on Monday - Duran Duran and lots more .....
  5. Tetsusaiga ... got it from Jaben. PM him for a quote.
  6. The search is over! I finally decided on (and bought) the Dr Amp from Jaben. Won over by the built quality. And sound amazing with bookshelf speakers. Have not tried with headphones yet ... need to custom a mini socket to 2 mono 1/4" plug cable for that .... next DIY project on my list
  7. Ok, here's another "Music that ...." thread For me ... it has to be tracks from Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon. Especially Track 2 - On The Run ... and with the lights off.
  8. papaya86 ... I am keen and definitely would be interested in getting one locally if possible. How can I get it?
  9. Just some clarifications. F-12 is a stereo plug (or male end), I was looking for a better female socket end to pair it for the extension.
  10. Been reading about the Sonic Impact T-amp. http://www.si-technologies.com/frontEnd/cm...sp?productID=18 and the great review at 6moons http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/sonicimpact/t.html Has anyone use this as a headphone amp? And where could it be found in Singapore?
  11. Got mine from Maclink in Sim Lim Square. Check the address from their website http://www.maclink.sg/
  12. If you enjoy the blower's daughter ... get the whole album "O" by Damien Rice ... great stuff! Cannonball is another track that comes highly recommended.
  13. Need to seek some advice on where can I get the Beyer DT880 headband and does it fit the Alessandro MS1 well?
  14. Enough of sobbing ... Now what music piece makes you laugh. For me, it will be: "Short Tales of the Black Forest", from the album Friday Night in San Francisco. Love the duet between Dimeola and Mclaughlin, especially when they launched into the improvisation duel.
  15. Interesting subject! Maybe it should be constructed as how can CREATIVE win the MP3 war? So far, CREATIVE is still adopting the old 'branding' formula in their latest ad blitz. The MP3 listening Panda .... in their latest ad, cute but pale when compared to the great U2 and shadow ad of the IPOD. That Panda doesn't make me wanna change my IPOD for the ZEN .... I would only if there is an irresistable incremental benefit, like how we keep buying that next headphones I believe they should take a different direction. Go the direction of the Audiophile, ie. "Perfection Chasing" Example ====== 1. Create a top of line audiophile MP3 player with "to die for design" by top well known designer and give it a better "catch phrase" name. Price should be "out-of-reach" and only for the well-heeled. And exclusively designed as a high end source for audophile systems (exclusive lineout). And of course it has to be mobile, pair it with top end headphones from well known makers. 2. Market it as a top notch audiophile device. Such as direct messaging ads where a bunch of audiophiles getting 'high' on a "top end system" with everything masked but the top end speakers. Then finally review that the player is the CREATIVE MP3; and with jaw dropping effects 3. Do the road show at AV shows, with a special listening room. Use top end well known component stuffs to pair with the MP3, not the usual creative products. As well as listening posts connected to top end headphones. 4. Get support from the Hi-fi magazines and accessories manufacturer. 5. Once the attention is there then come out with the "reachable" series for the mass market. Just my take.
  16. How about the "Blues"? Got one ... "Parisienne Walkways" by Gary Moore. What a heart-wrenching solo .....
  17. Listening to Cai Qin's Folk Songs My favourite is the 1st song 被遺忘的時, the one that was in the movie Infernal Affairs. Maybe because that's the reason why I bought the CD in the first place
  18. I got another one (yes .. again ) "Somewhere over the rainbow" performance by Katherine McPhee in the current Americal Idol. This was in yesterday's show. Her interpretation of such a well-known and well-sung standard is just so amazing.
  19. Agreed! Love Me is a lovely song.
  20. Got one last evening from LHS and has already done up the extension with Canare cable and Canare F-12. But still looking for better socket
  21. Planning to DIY a 3m extension code, 3.5mm female stereo socket to 3.5mm jack. So far have identify Canare F12 for the jack, Canare cable but can't seem to find a good female stereo socket other than those generic ones. Any idea? And what brand?
  22. I have got another one .... "Butterfly Kisses" by Bob Carlisle, a must listen for fathers with little girls Better still, watch the MTV and grab that hanky
  23. What music/songs bring tears to your eyes? Mine is "Fly Away" by Corrine May ... and only through my recent setup of ipod>PA2V2>Alessandro MS-1. Didn't have that *sob* effect when I played it over my mini-stereo combo though. The magic of decent cans I guess. Never thought it's possible but then again ... maybe I have mellowed
  24. I just DIY a mini to mini using Canare L-2T2S with its shield for ground to F12 mini plugs. Sounds great! Many thanks to the contributors of this thread for the idea.
